Terrifier 2 is an upcoming horror and slasher film which is also a sequel to the 2016’s Terrifier. Terrifier’s premise was absolutely simple, “Art, the malicious clown, returns with a murderous intention to kidnap three young women and kill anyone who comes in his way.” So, I was curious how will a sequel to a film like this will look like. Well, here’s the premise of the sequel, “After being resurrected by a sinister entity, Art the Clown returns to the timid town of Miles County where he targets a teenage girl and her younger brother on Halloween night” The Terrifier film’s star is Art the clown. In the world where you’d feel there all renditions of a horror movie clown have been exhausted, this film series gave us a totally new and original clown. Well, Art was first seen in All Hallows Eve that released in 2013 but the character became a horror icon only after getting his own film.
Now, Terrifier was only 82 minutes long but the sequel is almost 148 minutes long. From what I can remember this is probably the longest slasher film ever made. Because in a slasher film you can’t have events that go longer than 2 hours simply because there is no material. Terrifier 2 premiered for selective critics and fans in Fright Fest 2022 in August and the ones who saw it have given their opinions on the film. Let’s check them out.
Terrifier 2 Reviews Round-Up: Art the Clown is more Terrifying?
The film is written and directed by Damien Leon and stars David Howard Thornton as Art and the rest of the cast includes Samantha Scaffidi, Lauren LaVera, Griffin Santopietro, Elliot Fullam, Felissa Rose and Chris Jericho. The film is receiving unanimous praise as the sequel is everything that you’d want to see. Thornton as Art is simply terrifying that goes with the title. The isn’t just one of the longest film slasher but also one of the most expensive slasher films as the film looks absolutely lavish.
Reportedly, the film was made on a budget of $250k, that is a lot for a slasher film. One caveat the film has is the length, it feels like every shot in the film could be 10-15 seconds shorter. Many have suggested Leon to work with an editor the next time. Fans will love this film and overall it will be an extremely enjoyable ride. Ofcourse that is if you like gore and horror. The film has an IMDb score of 7/10 and this is the third horror film in the past week which has gotten a 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, apart from the scores let’s see what are the comments that the film is getting.

“Terrifier 2 tries to be bigger and better than its predecessor when really, we just wanted more of the same.”

“Thornton’s silent performance ranks among this year’s contenders as one of the most refreshingly unnerving ones, affronting the otherwise sensible claim that killer clowns and slashers both have depreciated permanently in value.”
Matthew Jackson
Paste Magazine
“It feels like too much, but if you’re among the horror viewers who get swept up in Art the Clown’s impish act, you get the feeling that’s exactly the point.”

“Despite the inclusion of the unique, blood-splattered kills Art is known for, and Thornton’s once again impressively sinister performance as the homicidal clown, Terrifier 2 might be too much of a good thing.”

“Terrifier 2 is an utterly brutal and relentless macabre of mayhem that solidifies Art the Clown as one of horror’s elite slashers.”

“Terrifier 2 is just as brutal and bold as the original, but it’s also bigger and better. If the first film gave us a new horror icon, the second gives us a new iconic final girl.”

“Terrifier 2 is excessive in the best ways. A nearly 2.5 hour funhouse of gore where Art the Clown brings even more sick & twisted charm. The story and characters are a big improvement but many central mysteries are oddly left unresolved and unanswered.”

“Terrifier 2 is the pinnacle in terms of indie slasher kills sequences, which are more than appealing enough to please genre fans despite the film’s other lacking elements.”

“Shot through with black humour and positively dripping with gore, this is an entertainingly gruesome sequel that’s sure to increase Art the Clown’s already substantial fanbase.”

“…repeatedly raising the question of just who we are to watch the unfolding of this atrocity exhibition for our own viewing pleasure. Art ironises everything that he does, but Terrifier 2 keeps asking us if – and why – we laugh along with him.”
Joel Harley
Starburst
“A self-indulgent, bum-and-brain numbing love letter to the undeniably hypnotic antics of Art the Clown.”
