After Iron Man’s success in 2008, Marvel Studios began its biggest grand plan of introducing new characters in this existing universe. The Incredible Hulk was the next release from Marvel. While at the time it felt like this is another standalone film until we got the post credit scene where we saw Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man and realized it is all connected. In the same film we were introduced to the character of Thunderbolt Ross played by the Oscar winner William Hurt. He was a villain in the film even if he didn’t die in the film or had a big fight scene with the Hulk. The main villain of the film was Tim Roth’s Abomination. Thunderbolt Ross didn’t appear in the MCU for a long time. He returned in Captain America: Civil War where he was the main reason where the Avengers broke off. He was the one who proposed the Sokovia Accords.
This was the last we saw of Ross even if there had been mentions of him in the MCU. The veteran actor who played Thunderbolt Ross in the MCU- William Hurt sadly passed away this year at the age of 71. Due to this it seems like Marvel has casted a new veteran actor to play Thunderbolt Ross. Any guesses? Its Harrison Ford!
Captain America 4: Why was Harrison Ford casted as Thunderbolt Ross?
The rumor that Harrison Ford was supposed to join the MCU has been circulating for a while now. A speculation was done based on which role will Harrison Ford play to join the MCU as there were many options but this changes today as we have confirmed news that Harrison Ford has been recast as Thunderbolt Ross in the upcoming MCU film Captain America 4: New World Order. William Hurt passed away in the March of 2022. So we knew that there would be some recasting done. This news coming after just two days we got She-Hulk‘s finale which sets-up the next Hulk film, is reaffirming the Hulk film.
They can’t tell the Hulk’s story without Thunderbolt Ross. In the comics, Thunderbolt was also the Red Hulk. Considering that an actor like Harrison Ford is playing Thunderbolt Ross, I don’t think so it is just so that he wander in suits. We will be getting the MCU version of Red Hulk played by Harrison Ford. It is possible that Red Hulk would be a big Marvel villain for the Hulk either in the Hulk movie or the show, whatever they plan on. We’ve seen Professor Hulk, She-Hulk, Skaar, so now its time for either World War Hulk or Red Hulk. The Red Hulk’s chances look good as Marvel has casted an A list actor, Harrison Ford, for what? To talk? I doubt it and I assume it is because this time there is a bigger role available.
