Netflix 1899 Finally Releases an Official Trailer!

Something strange is afoot. 1899 will soon be debuting on Netflix. Why is it special? The series is a mix of multiple intriguing genres including Supernatural Horror, Sci-Fi, Mystery and Thriller. The series is created by Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, the brains behind Netflix’s mind bending Sci-Fi masterpiece Dark. Baran bo Odar in fact directed all 32 episodes of Dark. A German show becoming a global phenomenon is quite a rare feat. The twisty nature of the show and the glaring ambiguity added another layer of discussion to the show’s already outstanding storytelling. Dark debuted on Netflix in 2017 as an underrated show that no one cared about. It ended its run in 2020 with its third and final season, by the end it was regarded as a TV masterpiece.

Many drew comparisons to Breaking Bad which was weird as both shows hardly had anything in common. However, the comparisons were about the platinum quality of content that both shows had to offer. Seeing my passion for Dark, you can now understand why I called the upcoming Netflix series special. The only thing working for 1899 is that it has some of my favorite people working behind the camera. A lot of information about the show is kept under wraps. We have only gotten a teaser trailer and few images from Entertainment weekly. For a long time Netflix even kept the release date of the show under wraps. However, last month at TUDUM’22 we finally got a release date and it was earlier than expected. A month after that, Netflix has finally released a full length trailer for the show and it is just what you expect.

1899’s Trailer is as Trippy as you’d Expect!

1899’s trailer takes in the world of the series where all the action is happening on a ship. The entire trailer gives us an unnerving vibe of something sinister, just like Dark did and just like Dark it creates an experience where you’re not sure whether it is a supernatural entity that is doing these things or is it all psychological. 1899 definitely has some big revelations in its kitty which it is desperately trying to hide. There is another ship involved called Prometheus. They get a distress call from it however, when they reach its co-ordinates, its deserted.

The trailer does a phenomenal job of raising the intrigue for the series while not spoiling anything about the plot. There are some very eccentric characters but their relationship with the plot is something that I’m not sure of yet. I believe this too just like Dark will be time travel story, even if not marketed as one. I don’t know what the trifecta sign means but it definitely holds some significance. We know there is a whirlpool involved but what it does is something that is mystery. My guess would be it is a time travelling portal.

Regardless, releasing a trailer now makes senses to hype up the audiences for the show. I was looking forward to only two shows this year, one was HBO’s House of the Dragon which concluded its run today and the other Netflix’s 1899. While House of the Dragon was almost a perfect prequel, I hope 1899 doesn’t disappoint as well. The first season of the show is rumored to have 8 episodes with each episode being about 50-60 minutes long. This format is similar to the creators’ previous work.
