The last film of 2022 that Marvel is bestowing upon us is perhaps the best we could’ve wished for given the year that Marvel movies and TV shows have had – Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever. So naturally we were expecting there is a lot of buzz around the filming given the special circumstances of the film as well. Until some months back everyone at Marvel was lip-sealed about the film until we finally got a teaser trailer for the film and since then we’re just bracing ourselves for the spectacle that is about to come. The teaser was so emotional and handcrafted with love and care. A month later we got the official full length trailer of the film which was an explosive ride. It chucked out the somber and cerebral feel and tone of the teaser and went for a more action-heavy adventure with vivid colors. Needless, to say both trailers were amazing and the film already looks way better than any Marvel content that we’ve gotten this year.
I have full faith in Coogler to provide us with an emotional, heartbreaking, layered and old school Marvel film. Since the film was addressing T’Challa’s death and not recasting Chadwick Boseman, we all were wondering who will take the mantle of Black Panther of Wakanda. There were many theories surrounding the same, some even being as crazy as Shuri resurrecting Killmonger and him taking over as Black Panther as a threat looms over Wakanda. After weeks of anticipation, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever had its world premiere today and critics have given their first reactions and as usual they’re extremely positive but that is not the only good thing that has happened after the World Premiere of the film. Apparently the count of the post scenes and mid credit scenes of the film are revealed as well.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Has Only One Post Credit Scene?
Marvel and their post credit scenes have been a norm in the industry for more than 10 years now. It started with the Incredible Hulk and has been going on since then. It is a better love story than Titanic. At first the purpose of these scenes was to simply tease the upcoming movie in their universe. However, just like anything else in the world, as the years passed by their definition has changed as well. As mentioned above, previously the scenes were supposed to be about strictly foreshadowing to see what’s coming next .
But now Marvel started to use them as jokes or gigs and nothing important altogether, simply something that the fans can have fun with. Hence, the number of post credit scenes have increased exponentially in every Marvel project. We’re at a stage where each new Marvel film will at least have two post credit scenes. One which is fun and the other that is a tease. Check out every Marvel movie that we saw in recent times and you’ll see this pattern. That is why Wakanda Forever having only one post credits scene seems odd.
A report from the people who were present for the premiere said, the movie will have only one mid credits scene, the details for the same have not been revealed yet but I’m sure it will be leaked online soon. The scene is supposed to be extremely entertaining and exciting. However, it is important to note that Marvel has skipped post credit scene for critics in premieres previously as well, as they want nothing to be spoiled after the premiere. They did the same thing with the Avengers movies, so they might be hiding something big that would only be shown once the film hits theatres.
In a recent interview with Vogue, writer Michaela Coel talked about the film’s narrative, “It felt like the entire cast was processing grief,” Coel explained. “There was a sense that we have to bring this baby home in the name of Chadwick. I thought to myself, I’m rolling up my sleeves and I’m getting in. I don’t need to be front and center, I’m here to support.”‘
Letitia Wright who plays Shuri, revealed the story of Black Panther without Boseman to The Playlist, “It was hard for me to imagine being on set without my brother. It was something I was battling for months,” Wright revealed. “The confidence that Ryan [Coogler] felt that he heard Chadwick just give him that gentle push forward, to continue. And the way that Ryan would express that it was bigger than all of us, and Chad would have wanted us to continue. That really encouraged me. I have so much confidence. I love Ryan.” Wright added, “I can’t wait for you guys to see the film and how we honored Chad in a beautiful way.”
Let me know what do you think of the first reactions Do you think Shuri is the new Black Panther? Which one do you prefer? Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is slated to release on 11th November 2022.
