2022 seems like a good year of horror flicks with titles like Scream, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Fresh, Morbius, Umma, Halloween Ends and many more. Add to this list Ti West’s X which surprised all audiences when it came out this week. The film is being adored by fans and critics alike and has an approval rating of 96% on RT, as well as a rating of 7.6 on IMDB and 78% on Metacritic.
X Prequel Pearl Release Date and Plot
It follows young group of pornographers, who embark on a journey in a van to make the best selling dirty movie of the 1970s, choose the wrong farmhouse to film it. The film reminded many horror fans of the classic slasher horror era and delivered a pleasant surprise by exceeding all expectations. Well, we have some really good news for those of you who liked it.
The film’s prequel and sequel have been confirmed and the prequel is almost ready. Director Ti West unveiled the prequel and sequel plans for the film at the film’s SXSW premiere. He also revealed a teaser footage from the prequel at the premiere. The prequel called Pearl has already been shot and West ha also finished editing the movie. After putting on the finishing touches, it is expected that the film will be done by May. This means it could come out by Q3 this year itself. Here’s what West had to say about the prequel.
“If X is about the way this auteurist era of independent filmmaking is affecting people, Pearl is sort of about the old Hollywood way that affected people. They’re super different and very out-of-nowhere. You won’t need to see one to see the other but they do complement each other.”
Pearl Is Shot By Avatar 2’s Crew
Not only that, the film was shot right after X as the cast and crew were already on set in New Zealand. The same crew which is involved in the making of James Cameron’s Avatar 2 filmed the prequel Pearl.
“I came out of quarantine and I was like, ‘We’re already building all of this stuff, it’s COVID and we’re on the one place on Earth where it’s safe to make a movie. We have the whole crew from Avatar 2 who’s on break. We should make two movies. The miracle of A24 was that they thought this was actually a good idea,” Ti West said.
That aside, West also revealed that he’s writing a third film in the franchise and that one will explore another filmmaking era. He said, “That one will be about how home video has affected people.” It seems like West has a quite a sound vision of what he’s doing and wants to bring it all to life in a hurry. With Pearl already shot and edited, it won’t take him long to begin filming this sequel.
