Black Panther: Wakanda Forever introduced an array different characters in the MCU including the main villain or antagonist of the film Namor. The character is one of the latest additions to the MCU even though he has been part of the Marvel comics for a long time. In fact Namor was one of the first characters that Marvel introduced making him one of the oldest. There have been many Easter Eggs about Namor throughout the MCU that we’ve been mindful of but sadly all these Easter Eggs never resulted into anything as haven’t gotten a Namor led movie. However, there are rumors that it might happen soon. Whatever it is, at least Namor was introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever be it as an antagonist.
As Coogler introduced him, he gave him a slice of realism as his entire civilization and him were part of history and culture that felt unique and closely bound. Namor is played by Tenoch Huerta and his performance has certainly received many positive reviews. As Namor was recently introduced, it reminded audiences of another underwater Superhero that doesn’t belong to Marvel. You guessed it – Aquaman. Since we have gotten a live action version of Aquaman very recently it makes it obvious that the audience will start comparing these two characters. It looks like Tenoch Huerta has thought of this question and already has an answer ready.
Aquaman vs Namor: Tenoch Huerta Knows Who Will Win?
Tenoch Huerta was recently speaking with Rolling Stone where he was asked about his famous speedo bulge and then later he was asked about how the audiences are drawing similarities between the two characters. Huerta said, “[I’m] honored to be compared with that guy. He’s a wonderful actor, a fantastic human being. He’s a Hollywood movie star and they are comparing me with him. It’s like, ‘Oh my, God, Mom! Mom! They are talking about me and Jason!’ It’s fantastic! I love it,” Tenoch Huerta told Rolling Stone. “But, yeah, talking about the characters, I think they are totally different. It’s like trying to compare Shazam and Superman, or, I don’t know, Thanos and another villain just because they are villains, you know? For me, it’s like, okay, they are two superheroes, they come from the water, and that’s it. One is Mayan, Mesoamerican, and the other is Atlantean, from a Greek myth, but it’s different cultures, different backgrounds…even different powers, you know? Aquaman can communicate with animals, with whales and everything and Namor can’t.”
Nate Moore is the producer in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and in a recent interview he was asked whether after the gigantic success of Black Panther 2 is there a possibility of Namor getting his solo film, for which Moore said, “It honestly affects us more, and not to talk too much out of school, but in how we market the film than it does how we use him in the film. There weren’t really things we couldn’t do from a character perspective for him, which is good because clearly, we took a ton of inspiration from the source material, but we also made some big changes to really anchor him in that world in a truth that publishing never really landed on, I would argue, in a big way.”
He continued with, “I’ve read every Namor comic ever written and I love them, but the world of Atlantis is a little vaguely drawn. It’s maybe kind of Roman maybe. And so, Ryan is such a detail-oriented filmmaker that he wanted to anchor into something that felt as tangible and real as hopefully Wakanda fuels for people. And I think there was nothing from a business side anyway that was preventing us from doing that, which is great.”
