Hey guys, do you remember The Flash movie? Yeah, the one that stars Ezra Miller. Yeah, the same guy who committed multiple felonies. Yes, the same guy people thought will turn out to be a serial killer. You remember him? Or at least the movie? If you do then good. So, yeah that movie is not cancelled, it is going to be released, even if the lead star is at risk of being declared a criminal, but for some reason Batgirl faced the axe. Well done, Warner Bros. Context aside, in August Warner Bros. took the decision that the Flash movie would go on as Ezra Miller released a statement about regretting his actions and promising to work on his mental health.
The Flash was always going to be important for the DCEU as it was supposed to result into some kind of soft reboot that will allow Warner Bros. to put a carpet on their past mistakes (2017’s Justice League) and start anew where they churn out the weed but are still able to use the parts that work (Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Jason Momoa as Aquaman). The movie faced a lot of issues for obvious reasons but after Warner Bros. decided to go on with the film, its release date was carved in stone. As we are trudging towards that release date just as an update, Warner Bros. has updated the film’s poster to a much cleaner aesthetic. However, as we move forward we have another update that tells us that The Flash could be a No Way Home for BatMEN.
The Flash is a No Way Home of Batman?
The Flash is in the making while these massive changes are going around it. The recent takeover of James Gunn and Peter Safran does promise us that they would provide us with a much more coherent DCU and not the fragmented one. The Flash is supposed to deal with tome travel and quite possibly multiversal travel as well. A recent report from Deadline suggests that, The Flash movie is every Batman fan’s dream as it is supposed to feature multiple Batmen and it would be like a multiversal Batmen event similar to No Way Home.
The report includes that the film for sure has cameos from Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton as their Batman counterparts. There is no mention of Bale and that is a good thing. No one dare touch Nolan’s near perfect trilogy. Whether Pattinson would be included or not that has to be seen. For now Reeves’ universe stands on its own but a cameo here and there is not out of the question. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav and DC Co-Head James Gunn has said in the past that they want to clean up the Batman situation at DC.
They don’t want to have 4 different versions of the Caped Crusader existing at once. Ben Affleck claims that he has hung up the Bat suit but he was seen in reshoots of Aquaman 2 and his involvement in The Flash movie was always suspected. There was a recent rumor that Michael Keaton is supposed to be DC’s default Batman from now on. I don’t whether it is still the case or do Gunn and Safran have a different plan. The Flash movie has had pre-screenings with the audiences and it has tested positive through the roof.
We don’t know what will happen at the end of The Flash but whatever it is, it will probably set-up something or at least make a huge change to the DCU. The Batman crisis too would be solved in this film and who knows maybe Gunn and Safran have their version of the caped crusader ready. Will that be Pattinson? Let’s see.
Andres Muschietti (IT) will helm The Flash, and Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey, Batgirl) will pen the story. Additionally, it will feature the Bruce Wayne/Batman characters played by Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton, as well as Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdu as Nora Allen, Ian Loh as a young Barry Allen, and Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Rudy Mancuso in unspecified roles.
The Flash is slated for a theatrical release on June 23, 2023.
