A rebirth is afoot for the DCEU as it is now been renamed to DCU. Warner Bros. is trying to correct all their mistakes that they committed in their first shot of creating a cinematic universe after their merger with Discovery. The studio realized that they have great asset which is not being used to its full potential and more than that it is being treated unfairly as mediocrity is thriving there. The asset was turning into a liability as the franchise was becoming a box office failure. Their last two ventures like Shazam! and Aquaman pulled them out of the slump that they’ve been in. However, it was clear that if they plan on building cinematic universe, then there has to be one person helming it who has a clear vision regarding all the content that comes out and how everything will culminate together.
Basically, they wanted their own Kevin Feigi and after months of search they finally appointed James Gunn and Peter Safran as the new heads of DC after they fired Walter Hamada. DCU’s dawn was clear with the release of Black Adam which brought back Henry Cavill’s beloved iteration of Superman. Fans are now extremely elated and excited to see the new DC or DCU as it has all the right elements with which they can create something like the MCU or better. However, even after months of being appointed as new DC heads, the duo has not made any announcements of the new slate of movies and while that would be in development Margot Robbie‘s has already made her plans of what she wants for her character of Harley Quinn.
DCU: Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy Relationship On the Cards?
Margot Robbie recently had an interview with Comicbook.com where she was asked about the recent shake-ups at DCU and how does that impact her character of Harley Quinn. Robbie answered very freely and candidly as she normally does and after addressing the take over of James Gunn and Peter Safran, she was asked what does she wants next for her character as she plays Harley Quinn. Right there in an extremely excited manner, she said that the first thing she wants is a lesbian relationship for her character.
With whom you ask? Well, that is is the spicy bit . She wants a lesbian relationship with none other than Poison Ivy just like in the comics and the animated series. She said, “I have been pushing for that for years. I cannot tell you how hard I’ve been pushing for that. I want it too…” She further added, “Honestly, when I pictured, I always picture like Poison Ivy in the comics. I don’t really actually picture [a specific] actress doing it, but I agree, that would be so good.”
This is not the first time that Robbie has mentioned her wish to have a on-screen lesbian relationship with Poison Ivy. In a previous interview with Den of Geek, she had mentioned that she is always suggesting DCU this relationship and she will continue to do so until they finally do it. The Birds of Prey actor said, “Trust me, I chew their ear off about it all the time. They must be sick of hearing it, but I’m like, ‘Poison Ivy, Poison Ivy. Come on, let’s do it.’ I’m very keen to see a Harley-Poison Ivy relationship on screen. It’d be so fun. So I’ll keep pestering them. Don’t worry.”
DCU’s next movie: Shazam! Fury of the Gods is slated to release in theatres on 17th March 2023.
