DCEU is on the verge of a rebirth as it is now been renamed to DCU. Warner Bros. It was clear that if they plan on building cinematic universe, then there has to be one person helming it who has a clear vision regarding all the content that comes out and how everything will culminate together. Basically, they wanted their own Kevin Feigi and after months of search they finally appointed James Gunn and Peter Safran as the new heads of DC after they fired Walter Hamada. The duo took some major decisions yesterday and it looks like the first wave of decision taken by Gunn and Safran is facing some serious backlash from fans. However, it seems like the appointment of James Gunn as DC Studios Head is a problem for actors as well along with fans.
It seems like James Gunn past tweets are once again haunting his present life. Actor Ray Fisher who plays or played Cyborg in Synderverse appearing in movies like Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League (2017) and Justice League (2021). Fisher had made many complaints about director Joss Whedon back in the day along with Gal Gadot but at that many people had come out in defense of Whedon and called Gadot and Fisher attention mongers. Now DC Co-Head: James Gunn to happens to have supported this notion through his actions and it seems like after being appointed at the DC head James Gunn has some amends to make.
DC: James Gunn Finally Apologizes to Ray Fisher?
We all are aware of how vocal James Gunn is on all social media platform. Well, this quality of the director is not something he has picked up recently. Gunn has always been vocal about his opinions however, controversial they may be. This was so even before he had made a name for himself. However, as he became famous his past tweets resurfaced that they contained some insensitive comments which pushed Marvel to the decision where they fired Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 only to unfire him after sometime.
When Justice League (2017) was released and it bombed on the box office, the movie was facing a lot of heat. Many things about the film were still being discovered, in which actors like Gal Gadot and Ray Fisher had come out to address the toxic behaviour of director Joss Whedon who was the replacement of Zack Snyder. When the allegations were made, there were many people on both sides of the debate. The ones on Whedon’s side wrote many articles questioning Whedon which James Gunn supported in a way.
Justice League actor Ray Fisher posted on Twitter, going off on new co-CEO of DC Studios James Gunn over having deleted Tweets about the 2017 film’s director Joss Whedon. Fisher stated, “The way James Gunn uses fake grace on Twitter is really funny. Him going to bat for Joss Whedon, pseudo-apologizing for it, and then deleting it immediately before taking his new DC job is not. Refusing to apologize for toxic behavior seems to be a job requirement for WB/DC”
Ryan Fisher’s issue is with James Gunn “liking” tweets like Alan Tudyk’s that had to do with Whedon. Here are all the Tweets mentioned in the article:
Its important to note that the Tweet that James Gunn liked didn’t defend Whedon so to speak but did question Ray Fisher’s accusations, given the history that Whedon has. Three hours after Ray Fisher made his accusations, James Gunn responded him and clarified that the deletion of his tweets had nothing to do with Ray Fisher. The DC Co-head said, “ALL my tweets automatically delete every few months, Ray, it has nothing to do with my tweets to you.”
DCU’s next movie: Shazam! Fury of the Gods is slated to release in theatres on 17th March 2023.
