The end of Phase 3 marked Marvel’s entry into into TV shows. Since 2020, Marvel has started something that they’ve never done before, broadening their horizon. Marvel made 7 films in Phase 4 and 9 TV shows. We’ve gotten about 60 hours worth of content from Marvel combined. However, one thing that can’t be denied is that Phase 4 has not particularly worked for Marvel. Except for a rare success in Spider-Man: No Way Home and TV shows like Loki, Marvel is struggling to keep their audience hooked to their content, especially when it comes to TV shows. In 2022, no Marvel movie went past $1 Billion despite their budgets skyrocketing. The closest was Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with $955 Million. Marvel phase 4 was filled with mediocrity and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever marking the end of phase.
Along with that 2022 also, comes to a close. Phase 5 will begin next year with Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania. Just like this year, there were a lot of shows planned to release next year as Kevin Feigi had revealed the slate at San Diego Comic Con 2022. However, after unveiling the entire Multiverse Saga with more than 10 shows and movie releasing in Phase 5, 2023 doesn’t look like the year that is starting in favor Marvel as many shows that were supposed to release this year are facing severe delays.
ECHO, Agatha: Coven of Chaos and What If Season 2 Faces Major Delays!
An industry insider at Marvel Studios has revealed that there are some major changes going in the MCU, in the TV department. It was discovered that many shows that were supposed to release in 2023 are pushed back further than expected. In a Reddit post on r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers, coming from sources of the subreddit’s moderation team, it was observed that the three shows that are bearing delays are What If Season 2, Agatha: Coven of Chaos and Echo.
What If Season 2 has been on a trip of its own as its sophomore effort was to come out in late 2022 before being bumped to early 2023 and once again delayed it 2024. I think we’ve had many reports about Echo and it shouldn’t be a surprise that the series is unlikely to be ready until its 2023 release window, so the series has been further delayed to an early next year release date. the Alaqua Cox-led MCU series hits supposed production troubles. Agatha: Coven of Chaos is been delayed from its previously mentioned Winter 2023 release.
There has not been any of a release window but the series is set to premiere after Daredevil: Born Again, likely in 2025. There are two ways to look at these days. One, these delays maybe a result of Disney’s new resolution of “quality over quantity”. Second, all the shows are in turmoil of some sort or the other. We know Echo is facing production issues and the likely reason for What If’s delay is the backed-up and overworked animation pipeline. Many factors are dragging these projects down in unison.
However, the reason for Agatha: Coven of Chaos’ delay is unclear. Whatever reports we’ve gotten thus far points towards that the series is soon heading production and start filming. So, does that mean the Kathryn Hahn led show requires two year for post production? Given its delay to 2025. If this is all part of Disney’s conservative content approach then its okay otherwise there is something going on behind the scenes of Coven of Chaos.
MCU’s newest film – Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is playing in theatres near you. Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania will release in theatres near you on 17th February 2023.
