The Sandman Season 2 Cancelled By Netflix

Netflix isn’t what it once was. For a long time the streaming giant was called the best in the world. Netflix pretty much redefined the way we consume content. The pandemic greatly helped Netflix solidify their position in people’s life however, as the word opened up again, Netflix’s importance has gone down. The platform is still the biggest streaming service in the world with over 223.9 Million subscribers followed by Amazon Prime Video with 200 Million subscribers and Disney+ with 164.2 Million. However, at the start of 2022, Netflix had predicted that their user base will increase significantly but during July, their second quarters report revealed that the streaming giant lost 970,000 subscribers. The following months have seen Netflix’s reaction to this.

They’re making significant changes in their plans and terms to make sure that the subscribers hang around for a bit longer. The platform also intends restrict the “Share Password” option. Along with these changes, the streaming giant just like any other nervous Netflix began to cut down weight to fly higher. The platform has cancelled many shows until now that were once confirmed to get a renewal. Mostly recent to face the axe was 1899 from the creators of Dark. As Netflix was swinging its axe at everything the fans of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman were worried on whether that show will also meet the axe or would survive for a second season. Thankfully, that question is now answered.

The Sandman Season 2 Is Not Cancelled!

The Sandman series on Netflix is based on Neil Gaimen’s DC comics that are set in the world where Sandman – Master of Dreams gives shape to our deepest fears and fantasies. However, once the Dream goes missing for a century, his absence sets off a chain of events that will change both the dreaming and waking world. The Sandman is a rich, character-driven blend of myth and dark fantasy woven together over the course of 10 epic chapters following Dream’s many adventures.

Gaiman is also the Executive Producer for the show and he has put the worry of all the fans away as he has confirmed that The Sandman Season 2 is not cancelled. Gaiman addressed the concerns of a distressed fan who was worried that Sandman would have a similar fate as the animated series Inside Job which was axed by Netflix in January 2023 despite previously giving Season 2 the green light. Gaiman confirmed that Netflix has not reversed its decision of renewing Sandman’s season 2. He acknowledged that nothing is ever certain.

However, he did say that it would only take something catastrophic for The Sandman to be cancelled by Netflix. Here is Gaiman’s reply to the worried fan’s post:

The Sandman ranked eighth on the list of Most Popular Shows on Netflix of 2022, so the renewal from Netflix doesn’t come as a surprise. Honestly, I always knew that Netflix isn’t going to cancel The Sandman. The Netflix show has an enormously talented cast including, Tom Sturridge leading the pack as Sandman alongside Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer Morningstar, Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, Charles Dance, Jenna Coleman, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park and David Thewlis.

All eleven episodes of The Sandman are currently available for streaming on Netflix. Season Two doesn’t have a release date yet.
