Avatar 2 Beats Spider-Man: No Way Home At Box Office, Nears 2 Billion!

Avatar: The Way of Water is ruling the box office and let’s not act as if that was any surprise. If it is a James Cameron movie then the box office will bow down to it. James Cameron is the king of box office, his enigmatic connection with the audience is unlike any other filmmaker in the current times. To release a sequel to a film that came out in 2009 that too mounted on a budget of $460 Million (most expensive film of all time), is something only James Cameron can dare to do and actually make it happen. He has become the only filmmaker to have three films above grossing over $1.5 Billion at the Worldwide Box Office, that too all the films are consecutive. I might dare say that he is about to become the first one to have three films grossing over $2 Billion at the Worldwide Box Office.

He is just below the legendary Steven Spielberg on the Highest Grossing Directors of All Time and given the Avatar sequels that are lined up and the crazy performance of Way of Water, I think it is clear that Cameron will take Spielberg in the coming years. The laurels that I just listed out are not even 1 percent of what the film has achieved. The most recent milestone that the sequel has achieved might be the most impressive yet.

Avatar 2 Will Soon Cross $2 Billion!

Avatar: The Way of Water is still the number one film at the box office and the current earnings of the film on the domestic box office is $574.4 Million and global cume of the sequel stands at $1.928 Billion. This amazing figure indicates that the film has surpassed the lifetime collections of Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was the Highest Grossing Film of 2021. Crossing No Way Home in the post pandemic era was considered next to impossible. Well, if there is anything that can make the impossible possible, it is the Way of Water.

It is now the 6th Highest Grossing Film of All Time. No Way Home’s global cume is $1.921 Billion but its domestic collection is $814 Million which is the third best of all time. The Way of Water is nowhere close to beat that I don’t think so it will do so. However, The Way of Water will definitely cross $2 Billion in the upcoming weeks but after that its journey is hard to climb further up the Highest Grossing Films of All Time as the competition is very tough and there is no guarantee if it will be able to topple the top five.

Which are 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War ($2.048 billion), 2015’s Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens ($2.069 billion), 1997’s Titanic ($2.201 billion), 2019’s Avengers: Endgame ($2.797 billion) and 2009’s Avatar ($2.9 billion). Let’s see at what figure the sequel ends its box office run.
