Sicario 2015 is one of the most groundbreaking action thriller films of all time. It was packed with nail biting moments, excellent cinematography and flawless editing with a shocking twist towards the end. Honestly, nothing less is expected from the visionary filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. While everything seemed pretty wrapped up in the first film, we got a sequel directed by Stefano Sollima nonetheless. Sicario: Day of Soldado (2018) opened to mixed reviews but boasted impressive action and committed performances from the cast. Now we are getting reports that this may not be the end of the franchise and Sicario 3 is almost confirmed.
Sicario 3 Script Is Ready
Sicario 2’s ending surely left the room for a sequel to be made but no official word has come so far. Talking on the subject THR asked Josh Brolin if there was any hope for Sicario 3. Brolin as you may know plays the role of Matt Graves in the Sicario franchise and he seems to be hopeful of a sequel. He stated that it deserves to be made and that the script has been written and re-written already.
“I just don’t know when we’ll do it. We may be 80. (Laughs.) But it’s very much at the forefront of all of our minds. It’s been written and it’s been rewritten. So it’s out there. We think it deserves a third one if we can make it in the way that we want to make it. So don’t give up! (Laughs.)”
This update is quite promising especially coming from the lead cast member. We haven’t heard anything much since 2018 when the producer Trent Luckinbill shared his desire to complete the said anthology trilogy. Here’s what he said back then:
“We probably are the biggest fans of the movie. And we feel that way again. Obviously, even more than the first one, we kind of leave off a little teaser at the end. Yeah. And we would love to kind of see, you know, this was always in the back of Taylor’s mind, and we loved it, and we thought, God, it would be great if we could get there. I think we’d like to do that now. I certainly feel like the second one lived up to the expectations.”
So, considering this Sicario 3 seems like a good possibility now but we can’t expect it to come anytime soon. Even if the filming somehow beings by the end of this year, we won’t see it before 2024. But the good thing is that this potentially confirms the third film, and all we as fans can do now is wait.
