How to Train Your Dragon is Dreamwork‘s most successful animated franchise. The movies in this franchise have been a critical success along with great box office performance. The movie is lies in the fantasy-adventure genre. The show stars Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, America Ferrara, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, T.J. Miller, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, David Tennant, Cate Blanchett, Djimon Hounsou and Kit Harrington. The premise of the first movie revolved around a character names Hiccup who has to kill a dragon to mark his entry into manhood but what ends up happening is he befriends a deadly dragon called Night Fury. The next movies in the franchise continued the story of Hiccup which kind of ended with the third movie. The first movie in the franchise has a ridiculous Rotten Tomatoes score of 99%.
Trilogy together collected around $1.5 billion at the global box office. Since releasing in 2010, Hiccup’s adventures with the dragons of Berk have taken up residence with some of the biggest names in animation, receiving heaps of praise usually only reserved for the likes of Pixar. Four years since How to Train Your Dragon 3 came out and we have not gotten anything else from the franchise. Fans are wanting more and it looks like we’re getting something- a live action remake!
How to Train Your Dragon: When Will The Live Action Adaptation Come Out?
We’ve been getting rumors of a live action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon for a while now. It all started after industry insider Daniel Richtman. Now The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the live action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon has officially been announced and is in development under Universal Pictures. The new movie won’t be a continuation of the franchise which was suspected by many but it would be an adaptation of the previous three animated films.
Dean DeBlois who directed all three animated movies is returning for the live action remake as the writer, director and producer. DeBlois has been part of many critically acclaimed animated films namely, Lilo, Stitch apart from the HTTYD trilogy. This would be his first time directing a live action film. How to Train Your Dragon live action adaptation is slated to release on March 14th 2025. Currently the casting underway and production is expected to start soon.
