DC Jason Momoa Is No Longer Aquaman

Last month James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled their new slate of DC movies which confirmed that a new Superman and Batman will be seen in this universe. On the other hand Wonder Woman is not part of the first chapter of the DCU. The remaining regular heroes like The Flash, Shazam and Aquaman, will they be played by the same actors or not has to be seen. A lot depends on the box office performance of the upcoming films. This year all these superheroes have one movie and if it is successful it is more than likely that they will keep their job, if not then you know what will happen. While The Flash has been getting overwhelmingly positive reviews from Test audiences, Aquaman 2 has been consistently getting terrible reviews which has forced Warner Bros. to make changes in the film.

This is looking like another Black Adam situation where the film got bad reviews in test screenings and in order to fix the issues, reshoots took place which in turn increased the budget. As the film only earned $400 million with an extravagant budget of $260 million, it was a box office bomb. Aquaman 2 already has an insane budget of $205 million and if reshoots are going to happen it will definitely increase the budget. Considering all this it looks like Jason Momoa is not going to play Aquaman anymore.

DC: Jason Momoa Will Be Lobo Moving Foward!

Reputed industry insider Jeff Sneider has given us an update about the upcoming sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The movie has gotten terrible reviews in the test screenings. Many people have called it boring and some have even gone to the extreme of calling it the worst DCEU film yet. Sneider too doesn’t have a good opinion about it as this is what he had to say about the sequel, “I hear it’s terrible and that’s why Momoa is gonna be Lobo going forward. But they can’t say that yet because then it would be a lame duck… and DC is hoping to wring another billion out of the box office. First one was awful too, so not a huge surprise.”

So from Sneider’s comments it is clear that Aquaman 2 is just a cash grab at this point and the official announcement about Momoa’s new job at DC will be announced once Aquaman 2 has completed its box office run. It has to be seen whether James Wan is able to solve the narrative issues of the sequel because if not then superhero fatigue is already at its peak so DC might not make any money from the sequel and end up delivering another flop just like Black Adam.

Aquaman 2 replaced Superman Returns which has a budget of $204 Million. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom stars Jason Momoa in the lead role of Aquaman and Patrick Wilson as Orm respectively. The other cast includes Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, Nicole Kidman and Randall Park who reprise their roles from the first film as Mera, Nuidis Vulko, King Nereus, Black Manta, Thomas Curry, Atlanna and Dr. Stephen Shin, respectively. The sequel will introduce some new faces in the form of Vincent Regan as Atlan, Jani Zhao as Stingray, Indya Moore as Karshon and Pilou Asbæk as an undisclosed character.

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is slated to release on 25th December 2023.
