I have a question for you guys today. Does Sony know how to make a Spider-Man film? I mean they’re the first studio to actually make a proper comic book live action film. Sam Raimi’s first Spider-Man film starring Tobey Maguire is one of the most loved SM films. Although, there is a separate discussion about how much of the love is nostalgia. Well, they did top the first film with Spider-Man 2 which is regarded as many the best SM film ever. Then the ball dropped after Spider-Man 3. Let’s not talk about it. Then they rebooted the complete franchise with Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. Again, let’s not talk about it. Then after allowing SM to appear in the MCU, they experimented with something – a Spiderverse film with Miles Morales’ Spider-Man in the center of affairs. I think Spider-Man is the most successful superhero currently. With Spider-Man movies doing so well, be it the MCU version or the Spiderverse, it seems like Sony is trying to merge the two things. Why? Because they can.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Delayed For a Reason?
Reputed industry insider Jeff Sneider recently revealed that Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse delay has something to do with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. After No Way Home, we have no updates when we will see Tom Holland return to the big screen as Spider-Man again. However, it looks like fans might see him earlier than that in another Spider-Man project. This is what Jeff Sneider had to say on the matter, “I’d heard that part of the delay of [Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse] was about getting Tom Holland in that movie, and that one of the dimensions that Miles could end up going to is a live-action dimension with Tom Holland’s [Spider-Man].”
Sneider further clarified that the film would still be an animated movie except for a section assigned to the cameo of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. Sneider further added, “I would assume that it’s just going to be an animated Miles in a live-action world.” This explanation might make sense as Across the Spider-Verse was first supposed to release on 8th April 2022 then it got delayed to October 7th after which it was once again to delayed to June 2023. The final delay appears to be because of inclusion of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. For now this is just a rumor and please take it with a grain of salt. There is no confirmation from either Sony Pictures or Marvel Studios regarding this matter. Check out SM: Across the Spider-Verse’s Official Trailer on YouTube:
The sequel stars Oscar Isaac, Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson and Issa Rae in prominent roles. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will releasing in theatres on 2nd June 2023.
