Spider-Man Across The Spiderverse Release Date New

Nowadays if a film is financially and critically successful, a sequel is automatically put into production because there is an assumption that the audiences wants to see more of this. While that is true in some cases it is not in all. Thankfully, the movie we’re talking about today is one of those cases. Into the Spiderverse is a excellent animation film that introduces us to a new Spider-Man Miles Morales. The film was made on a budget of $90 million and made back $384 million. It has an IMDb rating of 8.4/10 and 97% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It even bagged the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film in 2019, an honor mostly reserved for Pixar films. It has been a long time since Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse was announced but what we’ve gotten is a trailer and 2 huge delays. Why is that? Let’s find out.

Why Was Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse Delayed?

In the latest episode of The Town with Matthew Belloni, the host Matthew Belloni shared some details about the upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse film and reportedly it faced a lot of issues in its production. While touching on the box office prospects of the sequel, Belloni addressed how the film faced many production issues that has led to its production cost increasing, “Well, it cost a lot more than the first one [Into the Spider-Verse] because they had a bunch of problems on this one, and they scrapped a bunch of stuff and went back – it’s Lord & Miller and they kind of write as they go…”

For comparison, as I’d mentioned above Into the Spiderverse was made on a budget of $90 million. Across the Spiderverse is more expensive with at least $100 million of production budget. Marketing costs will be further added. No you might find these budgets minuscule simply because of the extravagant budgets of superhero films that we’re used to seeing but this is a lot of money for an animated feature. For reference, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio was made on a budget of $35 million. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish also had a budget of $90 million, though.

The sequel as we know was set to release in April 2022 but was delayed. It is likely that these problems factored in to the decision of delaying to late 2022 but then it was once again delayed to next that is 2023 and at the time it was reported because production was moving slower than what was anticipated but a new rumor also suggests that these delays maybe to rope in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man into the film as a cameo. Sony and their obsession to get Tom Holland in everything….
