PS6 Release Date Seemingly Confirmed By Sony Official Documents

Sony is to the gaming industry what Disney is to the Cinema industry. Not only are Sony’s original games are some of the best games ever made, Sony’s PlayStation series also is the biggest in console market. Talking about consoles though, PlayStation 5 has had a bitter-sweet journey ever since it was launched. It came loaded with incredible new features, an amazing DualSense controller, and some great games. But at the same time, it has faced massive stock availability issues since its inception. That was majorly owing to the chip availability crisis during Corona but that that is in the past now as its availability has now increased and things are settling down. But before even PS5 could fully live up to this new gen era, we already have some interesting news about PS6!

PS6 or PlayStation 6 To Release in 2027?

Well, it has been around 2.5 years since PS5 released which technically isn’t much, especially considering all the availability crisis which lasted 2 years. Its only since a few months that the console has started living up to its potential, so expecting a new console soon seems a bit absurd. There have been few rumors about PS5 Pro and how it may release in 2024 and to some extent it seems possible. Taking a look at PS4 timeline, it came out in 2013 and PS4 Pro and Slim came out in 2016 itself. So, it won’t be far-fetched to believe these rumors. But what we are going to talk about today is the PS6 or whatever they’ll choose to call their next next-generation console.

Fortunately, Sony had to recently release a set of confidential documents as a part of UK’s Competition Market Authority’s investigation of Microsoft’s attempted acquisition Activison Blizzard. In these documents, Sony has claimed that Microsoft will continue to make Activison games available to the PlayStation platform till 2027. Another statement reads, “By the time SIE launched the next generation of its PlayStation console (which is likely to occur around [blacked out]). It would have lost access to Call of Duty and other Activision titles, making it extremely vulnerable to consumer switching and subsequent degradation in its competitiveness.”

So from this, it can be safely assumed that the PS6 console will be coming out either in 2027 or beyond it. This will also be the year when the Activision games will become unavailable on PlayStation platforms and become Microsoft exclusive. So, from now on, everything you hear about PS6 releasing before 2027 will definitely be untrue. 2027 also fits the Sony console release timeline as it took 7 years for PS5 to arrive after PS4 and 2020-2027 is another 7 years for PS5 to rule the console market.
