Shazam: Fury of the Gods is the first DC movie releasing this year but the anticipation or hype surrounding the film isn’t much. However, if you’re to believe the critics who recently saw the film, then apparently you’d have blast watching the film. There is a lot at stake here, as if the sequel turns out to be a financial success then Zachary Levi and Asher Angel would be added to the DCU but if not, then their journeys would probably end with this film. Just like Shazam 2019, it will most probably not feature a lot of cameos from the wider DCU but it does have a Wonder Woman cameo as shown in the latest TV Spot. As it happens, the full plot of the film has been leaked and that is exactly what this article is about. So, in case you don’t want to come across MASSIVE SPOILERS, stop reading right now.
Shazam 2: Fury of Gods Full Plot Summary
Since you are here, it means you are looking for this and won’t be bothered by major spoilers. So, without further ado, following is the full plot summary of Shazam: Fury of Gods as provided by r/DCEUleaks subreddit. This has been verified by multiple sources who have viewed the film so it is pretty much 100% true. So, here goes!
Film begins with an Museum related action scene which has been explained in the following paragraphs. So, lets begin from the point where we see Billy as he is unsure if he’s cared for but if he turns 18, he’s wondering if the foster parents are going to get rid of him, he’s questioning his future if that makes sense so he’s getting a bit clingy and unsure of himself (is it sympathy for him or is it actual love?) and that’s something he’s going to find out as the film progresses. The first action sequence in the movie – well the second one technically – is on a collapsing bridge. The public knows them and knows about the Shazam family, and they have their opinions about them as some people criticize them some don’t. So, they expand the layer of the superheroes in this big cave they hang out in there to talk about their social lives and debate their responsibilities.
The Wizard, aka the original Shazam, and Billy have a conversation about the team and how serious they are about being heroes, but the Wizard tells him that he needs to that he needs to be the leader he needs to step up and be a leader and show that he can lead. During the movie they hint that Billy has a crush on Wonder Woman right and that leads to a big scene later on. There’s a shot here of her from behind featuring Gal Gadot’s back and her legs but you don’t see her face. She then turns her head around and it’s the Wizard so that’s like a big joke. Then there’s a scene with Billy at school he meets this girl Anthea played by Rachel Zegler and Freddy is shown to have a crush on her. She sees like him getting picked on and feels bad for him but they have chemistry so neither one reveal much about themselves. Helen Mirren plays Hespera and Lucy Liu plays Calypso who are sisters of Rachel Zegler’s character Anthea. We then find out that Anthea is a God who’s come to earth because something terrible is happening with her sisters.
At one point Freddy and Anthea get kidnapped by the sisters and they take them back to their kingdom which is not on our planet and they lock Freddy up. There’s a scene where they infiltrate a museum – this is actually the first scene of the film the opening shot and they find an artifact that helps them power up the staff the same one that the Wizard has and we find out to the Wizard was captured. The back story is that centuries ago, Atlas used to rule their kingdom and what happened was the old Shazam came and Atlas was apparently murdered by the staff so they have a vendetta against anybody who has the power of Shazam. Coming back to the plot, Team Shazam finds out that Freddy’s been captured. The sisters argue because somebody has to take over so we find out that Hespera isn’t really the villain. Kalypso is the one seeking attention, is kind of jealous and wants revenge by attacking Earth and take the power. Anyways, the team goes rescue Freddy, they get back to Earth where they go back to the cave and there’s a very Harry Potter-ish scene in a library with flying books.
We see a literal pen that comes to life called Steve the Pen which is a gag in the entire movie. So, Steve the Pen writes a letter that Shazam wants him to write while he speaks asking Hespera for a truce before it gets worse. There a few gags here as Shazam will say something like “Dear Hespera, I just want to tell you that – wait, hold on a second…” and then Steve the pen will actually write “wait, hold on a second”. Anyways, Hespera reads the letter and then Shazam and Hespera go to a hamburger in their costume and they have a meeting. Shazam wants to call a truce and Hespera reveals that the issue is actually her sister who’s hell-bent on taking over. Hespera just wants to keep things calm and in her father’s honor but Kalypso is the one who’s angry and wants to conquer. Kalypso appears and she’s riding some dragon like creature to attack Shazam and her own sister.
The we see the Shazam family show up. Here, there’s a funny scene involving Billy’s younger sister as throughout the movie she wanted Unicorns to be real so when Kalypso shows up, there’s a bunch of fancy creatures like trolls, dragons and unicorns. So it is like dream come true for his sister as she pulls out a packet of skittles and feeds them to unicorns. Anyways, Hespera puts up a dome over Philly but during the final battle after she is impaled by Kalypso. She is show laying on a roof about to die but Billy comes to her and asks to move the dome over the stadium. This is because, in order for him to defeat Kalypso he needs to supercharge the Wizard’s staff but it could destroy everything within the dome. Billy lures Kalypso and the dragon to the stadium and Hespera makes the dome smaller trapping Billy, Kalypso, and the dragon inside.
He blasts a bunch of lightning charging up the staff, yells “Shazam!” and kills the dragon and Kalypso. Once she dies, the dragon and all the beasts summoned on earth vanish/turn to dust but once the small dome closes, Freddy and the foster parents run in to see that Billy dead and the staff has been drained of its powers. We cut to a funeral being held in some godly looking area and the wizard is there too. Freddy asks if there’s anything that can be done and the Wizard says only the spark of a God can restore power to the staff which can revive Billy but he says there are none left…” But then, we hear a voice say “There’s still one.” The camera pans around from Wonder Woman’s back, paying off the faceless joke from earlier. But this time we actually see Gal Gadot use the staff, charging it up and reviving Billy! During this scene the Wonder Woman theme blasts and transitions to an orchestral version of the song.
Billy rises from the grave…literally, and it is played for laughs. Billy hits on Diana – and she basically says he is too young for her. The next scene is the family restoring the house because the dragon destroyed it earlier. The Wizard comes to visit, all dressed up in modern-day clothing, clean-shaven with a fancy hat and scarf. He is here for the staff and says he is going to spend time exploring the world. Before he leaves Billy asks what his superhero name is supposed to be (paying off a running gag). The Wizard pauses and says “…Shazam!”. The family all say, “Ooh, that makes sense.” Then the camera zooms in on Freddy, he is not impressed and says he can think of something better. This is where the film ends!
Coming to the post credit scenes, they play out like this. In mid-credits scene, milia Harcourt and John Economos are walking through a forest, that saying Waller set up a meeting between them and “someone”. We are led to believe it is someone big…but it is just Billy. The agents say “We are here to offer you a spot on the Justice–”, then Billy cuts them off saying “Yes!” – but they say “Justice Society“. Billy is super disappointed because he wanted to be on the Justice League with Wonder Woman and tells the agents they should not have that name because it is misleading. The two agents walk away and Billy rants about the misleading names, even pulling out his phone to google other examples of names to use. In the after credits scene, we see Dr. Sivana in jail, with a full-grown beard and a bunch of scribbling on his wall. Mr. MIND crawls through the window, saying his plan needs a bit more time but soon they will have what they need to takeover.
