Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was the most successful Marvel film from last year and that really says something. Despite having a lead actor like Benedict Cumberbatch and a visionary director like Sam Raimi, the film turned out to be rather underwhelming. Madness in the title was missing from the film. The film felt too simple in a bad way. The one thing that the film did right was giving enough time to Scarlet Witch to its detriment in fact as it almost became a Scarlet Witch film rather than a Doctor Strange one. The film ended on a note where one of the most powerful supes in the MCU supposedly died. However, as her fate wasn’t clear fans were hoping for a solo outing for the Scarlet Witch. However, it looks like Elizabeth Olsen has put all rumors to rest as she has crushed hopes of many Marvel fans for the Scarlet Witch’s return.
Elizabeth Olsen Not In The MCU Anymore?
Elizabeth Olsen talked about a possible MCU return on the Today Show, where the host asked her when will she return as Scarlet Witch in the MCU. Olsen had a hesitant answer regarding her comeback, “It’s a hard question for me to answer, because I feel like my words are always twisted every time I answer it…” After the host joked about this interview being a no-twist zone, Olsen candidly expressed her confusion over the matter, “No, so my no-twist zone is, yes, I hope so, but I have no idea. When I say that, it’s not because I have a loaded answer. It’s because I say, ‘Yes, I hope so,’ and I mean it at face value.”
When Olsen was questioned further for hearing about new MCU projects she made it clear that there has been no contact between Marvel and her as there is no contract. The conversation looked something like:
Today Show: “Have you started filming?”
Olsen: “Absolutely not.”
Today Show: “Have you seen a script?”
Olsen: “No.”
Today Show: “Has there been a Zoom call?”
Olsen: “There’s no contract!”
Olsen’s contract expired with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and since then it has not been renewed which makes sense as her character seemingly died in the film. Olsen also explained the nature of her contract which gave the audience some clarity on the matter, “I sign extensions every time they want me to do a movie. I just signed a very short one at the beginning, so everything’s constantly just, it’s always adjusting for me. No. I don’t think of this either as the end.” The Sam Raimi film stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Stephen Strange, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/the Scarlet Witch, Benedict Wong as Sorcerer Supreme Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo, Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez, and Charlize Theron as Clea.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently streaming on Disney+ and has released for 4K UHD Blu-ray and DVD.
