The Witcher Project Sirius Multiplayer Game Is Back on Track

We all know that The Witcher universe is in a bit of a pickle right now. The constant debacles by the Netflix Witcher-verse has left a serious dent on one of the best dark fantasy franchises of all time in all media. The way they have adapted the best selling books and video games series is nothing short of a disaster, especially The Witcher: Blood Origin spin-off. And after Henry Cavill’s exit and fan’s increasing loss of respect for the writers, Netflix Witcher Universe might just be nearing end or complete revamp. Anyways, the one thing Witcher that did not disappoint in the recent past was The Witcher 3 Next Gen update which one again dragged fans back into the world of Witcher. Also, as you may know, CD Projekt Red announced quite a few exciting Witcher game updates last year. That is exactly what we are going to talk about today.

The Witcher: Project Sirius Multiplayer Game Is Back on Track!

So, first of all, let us explain what Project Sirius is for those of you who are unaware. The Witcher: Project Sirius is a codename for a game developed by The Molasses Flood and created with support from CDPR. It is said to differ from past productions, offering multiplayer gameplay on top of a single-player experience including a campaign with quests and a story. However, it seems like the Netflix’ failures have led the devs to reconsider and completely rebuild the concept from scratch.

CD Projekt said in a note to its investors that this decision was due to it re-evaluating “the scope and commercial potential of the original concept of Project Sirius, and ongoing work on formulating a new framework for this project”. While earlier the project was moving forward with a fine pace, it has since then been under reconsideration and we feared it might even get canned. But we have some good news today, as a new official statement from CD Projekt Red suggests that Project Sirius has finally been given a new framework!

Although, not much is known about what Project Sirius will actually be now, it is still going to be developed by a third party, the Boston-based The Molasses Flood studio. Aside from this, we do not even know if it will retain its Multiplayer or Netflix elements. Considering the worldwide bashing that Netflix’ The Witcher is getting, I doubt they will be incorporating anything regarding Netflix now. What direction it’ll adopt now is unknown but one thing is for sure – it is being developed and that is surely a good news for the fans.

The statement also shared some financial data and explained how this project cost around 33.4 million Zloty ($8 million) in 2022, and that 2.7 million Zloty ($650,000) would be written off as part of the development costs for the first quarter of 2023. Anyways, this will hopefully not affect the development of The Witcher: Project Polaris which is the codename for the next installment in the series, let’s call it The Witcher 4. It will use Unreal Engine 5 instead of REDengine, which the two previous games used and is going to be the beginning of a new saga. CDPR aim to release two more games after Polaris, creating a new AAA RPG trilogy. To know more about Witcher 4, its teasers and concepts, click this link here.
