Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was made on a budget of $90 million and made back $384 million. It has an IMDb rating of 8.4/10 and 97% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It even bagged the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film in 2019, an honor mostly reserved for Pixar films. Nowadays, if a film is financially and critically successful, a sequel is automatically put into production because there is an assumption that the audiences wants to see more of this. While that is true in some cases it is not in all. Thankfully, the movie we’re talking about today is one of those cases, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. After a lot of production issues and numerous delays the sequel is all set to release in June. The promotional campaign of the film is on-song and a new TV spot has spoiled the live action crossover with Venom.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse – Will Tom Hardy Feature?
A new TV spot for Across the Spider-Verse was released where we see The Spot appearing in a portal in Tom Hardy’s Venom universe at Mrs. Chen’s shop. He is stealing from her, although it ends up only annoying Mrs. Chen as she asks him what does he want? The Spot picks up gum and mint from her stand and tells her that he is robbing her because he is a bad guy, followed by an eye roll by the shop owner. In all honesty, the TV spot uses unused footage from Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
The only change done to the footage is that the contrast and brightness has been increased. Also, there is a significant level of zoom on Mrs. Chen. The “what do you want?” line is even a the same. Watch the entire TV spot for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on YouTube:
The sequel stars Oscar Isaac, Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson and Issa Rae in prominent roles. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will releasing in theatres on 2nd June 2023.
