The Fast and Furious franchise is coming to end, at least the main timeline films. Fast X will commence a three part finale which would complete Dom’s journey. While the Fast and Furious films were always over the top but there was a time when these films were religiously followed and some still do. F9 might’ve deteriorated the franchise for many because the suspension of disbelief couldn’t in. Understandably so, if you blast a few people in space simply because you have a rocket engine strapped to a car is definitely a bit much. Although, whatever you might comment on the artistic value of these films, do understand that they’re always financially successful. Meaning there is a market and audience for such films. So, for a change I went to watch this film, prepared to be disappointed but surprisingly I was not tortured.
Fast X Review: It May Be Illogical, But It Was Entertaining!
Rating – ★★
When I stepped in the theatres I was not looking for a soulful film that completes my existence I was there to be entertained for 2 and half hours and I have to say I was entertained. Trust me there is nothing in the story, plot or even the action sequences for the matter. The only way the movie knows to entertain is through Jason Momoa’s Dante. He is really the heart of the film. Not in an emotional way but the screen presence that Momoa brings is awesome. Yes, he is over the top who is denying? But this what was required of him.
Apart from him, the only other character which impressed me was John Cena’s Jakob Toretto. I know he was extremely serious in the last film but because of the fun uncle vibe and Cena’s charms, the track is entertaining. Vin Diesel is bland as he can be. He is the Salman Khan of Hollywood. Jason Statham in his brief appearance was dope. The other characters played by some famous actors were dispensable in my opinion. I didn’t feel the film needed any of them and it appears neither did the writers as there is no need for them to be in the film.
Anyways, no one leaves a lasting impression in the film than Jason Momoa. He is truly a villain that I want to see more of. Dwayne Johnson’s cameo in the mid-credit scene is awesome. I love the Rock in anything. I’m definitely excited for the next installment because I want to see more of Momoa, Johnson and Statham.
Verdict – If you’re a fan of this franchise, then you won’t be disappointed because you’ve already trained yourself to ignore the logical errors. Although, if you’re just someone who wants to spend his weekend at the theatres and enjoy, I still don’t think Fast X will disappoint you. I can say for sure that Fast X is definitely better than John Wick Chapter 4. It is not pretentious, and it accepts itself for what it is. I didn’t get bored with it while John Wick 4 felt like a slug fest. I’ll rate Fast X 2 out of 5 stars.
The film stars Vin Diesel, Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, Michelle Rodriguez, Sung Kang, Tyrese Gibson, Jason Statham, Charlize Theron, John Cena, Rita Moreno, Jordana Brewster, Scott Eastwood, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Cardi B, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell and so on.
