The best superhero movie of this generation. Competition to Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. There is a possibility that you must have heard something like this in context to The Flash in the past few months. Well, it appears as if these comments which you’d heard from some reputed people were simply Warner Bros’ way to divert our attention away from all the horrible acts of Ezra Miller. However, the truth couldn’t stay hidden for long. As soon as the film released, the cat was out of the bag that The Flash is nothing special. However, is that it? The Flash is the third back to back flop film for DC. It has been an awful time for the studio at the cinemas but is The Flash so bad to crash at the box office so badly? Let’s find out.
The Flash Is Terrible!

Since it has been two weeks since the film’s release I’m going to keep my review short. I didn’t enjoy The Flash. Surprisingly the humor wasn’t the reason even if people have told me that the dialogues are very cheesy. If I’m being honest I didn’t feel so. The humor be it physical or verbal landed well almost 90% of the time. The VFX of the story is truly awful and constantly distracted me throughout the film. As we all know that there many two variants of the Batman in the film and I have to agree they’re super cool.
Their action sequences are designed even better than the titular character. I mean parts of the film felt like a Batman movie. I almost have a theory that Muschietti basically tried to show Warner Bros. what he could do with Batman in this film so he could get to helm a solo Batman film under James Gunn’s DCU. Which he has gotten now. I have a problem with how Flash’s action sequences were depicted. They seemed unoriginal and lackluster to me. I hated the baby shower scene. Didn’t hook me at all. However, many people did enjoy it.
The main problem with the film is the story. The film seems confused. If I have to tell you what the film is about in one line I won’t be able to because apart from Flash trying to resurrect his mother the film just jumps between new threats with no clear direction where to go. The concept of the multiverse explained in the movie is super confusing although I do like the slight dig at Endgame. The scenes in the film were weak. They didn’t have an identity of themselves, they simply pushed the story forward.
The mother subplot of course made me emotional. Also, the film has one of the worst post credit scene I’ve seen in a long, long time. Another thing, there were many small loopholes where I question why didn’t he use his superspeed and simply walked or why did he not simply fizz. Despite being 2 hours 30 minutes, the film felt much longer. Also, The Flash seemed more disappointing because it promised us a connection between James Gunn’s universe. However, despite so many universes crashing with each other we still didn’t get any glimpse into the future.
The Flash also falls under the category of DC movies which would be rendered moot once James Gunn takes over. The audience doesn’t find a necessity to watch these films because they don’t have an effect in the longer run. Coupled with the terrible VFX, Ezra Miller’s shady past and the negative word of mouth regarding the film have caused the speedster flick to bomb at the box office.
Verdict
The Flash might entertain you but it didn’t please me. It was one of the worst films I’ve seen all year. It was overhyped and the worst part is that I was felt wondering at the end of the film who really killed Barry’s mom? They never answer that. I know Reverse Flash does but he is not in the film, so who killed Barry’s mother in the film? It was not his father so who? Please answer this. Until then I’ll rate The Flash 2 out of 5 stars.
Andres Muschietti (IT) will helm The Flash, and Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey, Batgirl) will pen the story. Additionally, it will feature the Bruce Wayne/Batman characters played by Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton, as well as Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdu as Nora Allen, Ian Loh as a young Barry Allen, and Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Rudy Mancuso in unspecified roles.
