If you would’ve told me two years ago that I’ll be hyped up for a live action Barbie adaptation, I would’ve definitely declared you insane. However, since last year I’m starting to understand the reason for the hype. The Barbie film is about to become the perfect summer blockbuster, possibly out earning Christopher Nolan’s biographical drama Oppenheimer. Barbie might just become Greta Gerwig’s highest earner and why not? Based on whatever we’ve seen so far the film is a visual masterpiece. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Barbie is the most visually striking film I’ve seen after Avatar: The Way of Water. Although, we’ve only seen the trailers and not the entire film. So, let’s hear about the film from someone who has seen Barbie.
Barbie’s First Review Points Out Flaws Under All The Praise!
Mattel expert Eliana Dockterman recently got a chance to watch the film before the world and she did express her thoughts while writing for Time. Dockterman didn’t hesitate from saying that the film isn’t perfect but she admit to having fun. She said, “But I can share that it’s a fun yet self-aware romp with shades of Clueless and Legally Blonde. It’s also stuffed full of ideas, and occasionally overwhelmed by them… (I won’t give away Ken’s story, but Gosling nearly steals the show.)”
Barbie’s script has been co-written with Greta Gerwig and her partner Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story, Frances Ha, White Noise). Margot Robbie will star in the titular role with Ryan Gosling playing Ken, Barbie’s male counterpart. The rest of the cast includes, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Ncuti Gatwa, Alexandra Shipp, Ariana Greenblatt, Sharon Rooney, Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackay and Hari Nef.
Barbie movie will be out in theatres near you on 21st July 2023.
