The Witcher universe is filled with mediocrity and it has also lost its most valuable asset – Henry Cavill who played the titular character The Witcher or Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill as we’re all aware is a big fan of games and The Witcher happens to be one of his favorites so him himself playing Geralt was a very good thing. However, unfortunately, the other factors didn’t seem to work for the show and both the seasons of The Witcher at best had mixed reviews from audience even though critics lauded it. After playing the Geralt for three seasons, it was announced last year by Netflix that Cavill would be replaced by Liam Hemsworth from the fourth season of the show. Which means the newest season streaming on the platform is Cavill’s last. So did it end? Who are the rats? Let’s find out.
The Witcher Season 3 – The Rats Explained!
The Rats are members of a teenage outlaw group. They suffered in Nilfgaard’s war to conquer the continent, practically victims of it. These traumatic incidents have rendered their empathy moot. They’re now leading a nomad life – running around, stealing and killing to their hearts’ desire. In the books, the Rats are led by Giselher (Ben Radcliffe), and other members include Mistle (Christelle Elwin), Iskra (Aggy K. Adams), Kayleigh (Fabian McCallum), Reef (Juliette Alexandra), and Asse (Connor Crawford). The final member of the Rats is Ciri, who now calls herself Falka.
This is the basic information, if you’re interested to learn more about the Rats then you can read Andrzej Sapkowski’s Time of Contempt and the following novels, translated by David French. On emajor detail you need to know is that Ciri will spark an infamous romantic relationship with one of The Rats – Mistle if they indeed follow the books. Now that the Rats have appeared, their next appearance in the Witcher universe won’t be in Season 4 but rather in their own spin-off series called The Rats. It is a prequel series set before Ciri meets the Rats in Season 3. The length and structure of this spinoff are yet unknown.
At first, we heard it would be a six or eight episode series, but that was before The Witcher: Blood Origin released with a rather poor reception. The villain of the show is rumored to be Rocky star Dolph Lundgren.
The Witcher Season 3 Vol. 1 & 2 are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
