Warner Bros’ is one of the biggest films and TV studios. The studio has been in existence ever since cinema became an entertainment medium. They’ve seen all the great rises and falls in film history. Recently, they lost Christopher Nolan, one of the most inspiring auteurs of the 21st century. However, they still had DC. But is that a compliment? Not really. Once a great asset, DC has now become a huge liability for Warner Bros. The studio has endured three back to back box office disasters of growing proportions. The most recent one, The Flash has been labelled as the worst box office failure in the studio’s history. I mean after Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash what is next for DC? As it turns out it is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Its a film which has made audiences walk out of the theatres during test screenings and hence there is no hype around the film and it is most likely to be a box office dud. Apart from the supposed abysmal quality of the sequel, the addition of Amber Heard, Johnny Depp’s ex wife is not a good shade to be in. So, with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes going on, will the the sequel ever release?
Warner Bros. Doesn’t Want To Delay Aquaman 2!
A recent report from Variety revealed that Warner Bros. may not decide to delay Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom despite the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes. The report further dived into that the studio is looking to shift around some of its 2023 films into different release slots but that insiders have indicated that Aquaman 2 will not be one of them. This report comes as a surprise because we got an update in July that presented the possibility of Aquaman 2 releasing in 2024.
This means that the sequel is still heading for a December release this year. The reason for Warner Bros. not opting to delay Aquaman 2 is because this is the last DCEU movie and the studio is aiming to get it in theaters as quickly as possible so that era of the DC Universe can be in the past and James Gunn’s new DCU can began.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is slated to release in theatres on 20th December 2023.
