Looks like all of us have entered Barbie World, because the movie has broken records all over again. The Margot Robbie starrer has transformed itself into a cultural phenomenon, with viewers thronging theaters worldwide. Becoming the biggest grossing movie worldwide by a solo female director, it is marking itself as one of the most profitable ventures under Warner Bros. Barbie has broken a record within Warner Bros, set by one of the movies from their most iconic franchises : Harry Potter. It is not surprising that the movie has managed to achieve this feat so soon, considering how popular the movie has become with viewers of every age.
Harry Potter Deathly Hallows – Part 2, another of Warner Bros.’ billion dollar grossers, had earned the sum within the period of 19 days in 2011. Now, 12 years later, the movie has managed to surpass that by doing the same 2 days short of the past record – within just 17 days! Barbie is predicted to surpass even the 1.34 bn dollars that Harry Potter Deathly Hallows 2 grossed soon – becoming Warner Bros’ highest grossing movie of all time.
Barbie vs Batman – A Battle of The Greats
The Dark Knight Rises is the highest grosser domestically when it comes to Warner Bros Productions. Barbie’s $526,309,000 is extremely close to beating The Dark Knight’s $533,720,947 – and it seems like Barbie has been challenging Nolan to a showdown multiple times. The movie has already surpassed the movie in its total collections — now we have to see if they manage to overpower the movie domestically too. The movie has seven movies to beat in the international collections list – which it is projected to do soon too.
Margot Robbie Had Predicted The Success of The Movie
Margot Robbie, who also serves as one of the producers of the film, had pitched the movie to Warner Bros., saying that the movie could earn a billion bucks if done right. In an interview with Collider, Robbie said, “”I think my pitch in the green-light meeting was the studios have prospered so much when they’re brave enough to pair a big idea with a visionary director. And then I gave a series of examples like, “dinosaurs and [Steven] Spielberg,” that and that, that and that – pretty much naming anything that’s been incredible and made a ton of money for the studios over the years. And I was like, “And now you’ve got Barbie and Greta Gerwig.” And I think I told them that it’d make a billion dollars, which maybe I was overselling, but we had a movie to make, okay?!”
It is apparent by now that Robbie was not overselling the movie. We can assuredly say that the movie will continue breaking records in the near future.
