In March 2023, one Twitter user asked James Gunn on the app, “Would you work with Margot Robbie again?” The American filmmaker simply replied, “For sure.” The answer was positive but vague. Gunn did not specify if he plans to cast Robbie as the DC supervillain Harley Quinn or in a new project. However, now the Barbie star is rumored to make a comeback as Harley Quinn from The Suicide Squad. The rumor comes via the Twitter account MyTimeToShineHello. If the rumor is true, then James Gunn would indeed be picking and choosing which characters would stay on board in their respective roles.
The Suicide Squad – Harley Quinn And Other James Gunn Characters
In 2016, Margot Robbie debuted as Harley Quinn in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. She later reprised the role in 2020’s Birds of Prey. The filmmaker has talked about how he adores the character. However, there was never any official announcement from Gunn about a project with the Barbie star.
Barbie is smashing the box office with a collection of $1.2 billion. The film is also from Warner Bros., so following the massive success of the film, both James Gunn and Peter Safran, along with David Zaslav (Warner Bros. Discovery CEO), want the star to stick around as Harley Quinn. Along with the rumor of Harley Quinn, there are other DC cast members who will perhaps reprise their role.
Looking at the success of Barbie, Gunn might cast Margot as Harley Quinn in his next project. John Cena will also reprise his role as Peacemaker and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. Gal Gadot said she had talks with James Gunn regarding his comeback as Wonder Woman. However, it has been reported that it is not happening. Gunn has yet to address this issue.
