The first trailer of Foe, starring Paul Mescal and Saoirse Ronan is here. Directed by Garth Davis, this movie transcends genres and is one of the most anticipated movies coming on the indie scene right now. The movie is also executively produced by Ronan, who had dropped out of Barbie for scheduling conflicts caused by the filming of this movie.
What Is Foe About?
Based on the book by Iain Reid, the movie revolves around two characters Hen (Ronan) and Junior (Mescal). The couple live on Junior’s rural farm, where his family has lived generationally. However, things fall apart when a stranger named Terrance (Aaron Pierre) appears in their lives, stating that Junior has been chosen to live on a space station while Hen will remain on earth — and this experiment is bound to save mankind. On the other hand, Hen should not worry because a robot resembling Junior will stay on earth with her, as Junior is away and they are separated for their lifetimes.
Crossing over from sci-fi to psychological thriller, the movie experiments with multiple genres and themes. In Black Mirror fashion, this movie will be covering existential futuristic horror. Between two Academy Award nominees in the lead roles, there are some incredible performances on the cards. Davis told Vanity Fair, “What I find really powerful about the movie is it asks us to be awake and to be alive. A lot of the problems we face in relationships and with the environment and with all sorts of things coming our way is that we’re asleep at the wheel. This movie is really saying, ‘Wake up. Your life is precious, and if you take it for granted, you’re going to lose it.”
Foe will be premiered at the New York Film Festival, followed by a limited theatrical release starting from October 6.
