Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie is reigning the world. With the success of Barbie, which she starred in and produced, she has cemented herself as one of the best and most iconic movie stars of our time. The actress has been solidifying her path in cinema by acting in movies like I, Tonya, The Wolf of Wall StreetMary, Queen of Scots, Babylon and Bombshell. However, a recent anecdote revealed how she had auditioned for one of the most iconic shows on American television and missed out, although the casting director had felt that they had had a star on their hands.

Casting Director Reveals That Margot Robbie Auditioned For American Horror Story

Eric Dawson, casting director for American Horror Story revealed on Backstages’ Envelope : An Actor’s Podcast that Margot Robbie had auditioned for a role in one of the most successful seasons of American Horror Story — Asylum. Robbie had auditioned for the role in 2011, prior to her breakout success in Scorcese’s The Wolf of Wall Street.

This particular season had gone on to have seventeen Primetime Emmy Nominations, featuring one of Sarah Paulson’s best performances on the show. Dawson spoke of Robbie’s audition with fondness,

“Margot has a lot of ‘it’ factors. That’s the tough thing for casting directors who aren’t in the room [anymore] with actors. Margot  is probably one of my favorite auditions of all time, and it was right before she broke out. She was such a star. It was crazy, her  star appeal when she walked in the room. Even though she didn’t get that role, that was one of those things as a casting director where you go: This is a star, what do we do with her? Immediately, though, she was out of our realm of possibility of hiring. But  that’s really the fun part of casting, is seeing the people whose careers are just rising.”

Now, we do not know what Robbie’s career trajectory would have been if she had taken the part. She perhaps would have continued working on television and become one of Ryan Murphy’s favorites, like Evan Peters. We would perhaps have had a very different Barbie today, maybe even the Amy Schumer version.
