Pirates of the Caribbean 6 Script Ready - Will Johnny Depp Return

With the upcoming Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean series, the question of whether Johnny Depp will return or not is still there. The franchise has been in a negative loop with Depp getting involved in a defamation trial. On top of that, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) was a significant flop. In late 2022, Jerry Bruckheimer (producer) stated that there are two Pirates of the Caribbean films on the plan. Margot Robbie is associated with one of them. But, where does that leave the face of the franchise?

Will Johnny Depp Return for Pirates of the Caribbean 6?

For the five existing Pirates of the Caribbean films, Depp’s name was synonymous with the franchise. His character Jack Sparrow was a session, especially during the 2000s when Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End came out. His downfall started with high-profile misses like Mortdecai and Dark Shadows. Then, the court trial with ex-wife Amber Heard damaged his star power. The legal battle commenced as Heard accused him of domestic abuse.

Speaking to the press over the summer, Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production president Sean Bailey remained “noncommittal” about Depp’s return. There’s a probability that Bailey was saving face with his action. However, considering that the franchise labeled it a reboot, it might begin with a clean slate. It’s more likely that the franchise wouldn’t list Depp in the call sheet. However, looking at how vague the situation is anything can happen.

Things got more complicated with the ongoing writer’s strike. “We pitched it and thought there’s no way they’re buying it, it’s too weird. And they did! And then he wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone’s waiting around,” said Craig Mazin (showrunner of HBO’s smash hit The Last of Us).
