With James Gunn’s exit from the MCU, the fate of the Guardians of the Galaxy is currently unknown. But there is one project about the most popular Guardians character which is all set to release on Disney Plus soon. Yes, we’re talking about I Am Groot season 2, which is a part of the GOTG franchise under the Marvel umbrella. The first season of the spin-off featured Baby Groot at the center stage and all the 5 short episodes were directed by Kirsten Lepore. The cutest GOTG member was voiced by Vin Diesel and focused on his story after the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, where he sacrifices himself in order to save his friends. As it happens, I Am Groot Season 2 is now out with all its 5 shorts and here’s our short verdict about the season!
I Am Groot Season 2 Is As Cute As Its Protagonist
HOC Rating – ★★★1/2
Like Season 1, this season also features 5 shorts which are barely 4 minutes each. If you remove Marvel intro and the credits, then each episode is barely 3 minutes in length which means you’ll be done with the season within 15 minutes. In those 15 minutes however, you’ll have plenty of aww moments as well as some genuinely chuckle worthy and heartfelt moments. Episode 2 titled “Groot Noses Around” and Episode 5 titled “Groot and the Great Prophecy” are the standouts this season, while Episode 1 titled, “Are You My Groot” is the cutest and most heartfelt episode.
While we are subject to Baby Groot being the cutest Marvel character, episode 1 introduces a small bird like creature which makes even Baby Groot say “Aww”. The reason why episode 2 is a standout is that it introduces Groot to the concept of smell by granting him a bionic nose. It was really fun to see Groot react to various smells only to enter his own “worst smelling” room of all and in the end choosing to give up the nose than cleaning it. This reflects typical kid behaviour and you’d find yourself chuckling throughout this episode.
As for Episode 5, it once again proves to be quite hilarious as The Watcher watches Groot ruin the great prophecy by acting silly. This leads to The Watcher saying, “I am the Watcher but I cannot watch this”, only to later understand the true meaning of the prophecy. So, aside from giving you a few laughs, it also delivers a good message. The remaining two episodes have been shot beautifully as well but don’t particularly stand out among the others. Episode 3 however, has a split second Bradley Cooper voice cameo as Rocket.
Final Verdict – Cute, silly, and hilarious, I Am Groot Season 2 is worthy of a watch as it lasts barely 15 minutes and features the best work of Vin Diesel’s career.
Both the seasons of I Am Groot are now available for streaming on Disney+
