Dragon Ball Franchise still remains one of the most popular franchise to date with tons of merchandising, pop culture references, and huge fan base. It is impossible that you visit a comic con and not see a bunch of cosplayers dressed as DB characters. So, yeah even though it has been 5 years since we last saw it on screen, its presence is overwhelming. With the release of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero last year and the end of Granolah Arc of the manga, all eyes are now on 2 things. First, Beast Gohan’s manga debut, which we might see this month itself and second, the return of the anime. Today, however, we’re going to talk about something fans love to spend hour debating – Who’s the strongest Dragon Ball character? This list ranks all the Z fighters on the basis of their strength based on the current Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero manga arc.
10) Krillin
Considering the current DBS canon, Krillin definitely doesn’t stand a chance against anyone else on this list but he still is the strongest human on Earth. He is also the only human on this list but his constant willingness to improve and help Z fighters save Earth definitely earned him this spot. Aside from his strength and will, he proved to be one hell of a support during the battle with Cell Max in Super Hero arc. This proves he still has aa few tricks up his sleeves which may come in handy in future.
9) Android 18
Introduced as one of the most formidable foes Z fighters ever faced, there is no need to remind you of Android 18’s strength. Not only is she the strongest female fighter on Earth, but she is also one of the strongest female fighters in the entire Dragon Ball universe. She was among the 10 fighters chosen from Universe 7 during the Tournament of Power and was only eliminated while trying to save Android 17, who later went on to win the tournament. She was also an active participant during the battle with Moro, Cell Max, making her one of the strongest Z fighters.
8) Gotenks (Goten and Trunks)
These two Saiyans are quite inseparable and many have called Goten a shadow of Trunks, so it is best that we rank them together. While in their current individual Saiyanman forms, they would rank lower than 18. However, when fused together, Gotenks is one of the most powerful characters in the Dragon Ball universe. There was a time during Buu arc, when the fate of the world rested on Gotenks and in that moment, the character transformed to Super Saiyan, literally created a portal by screaming, and gave Super Buu run for his money. Since then, we haven’t seen much from them in their prime. Although, they tried their best against Cell Max in the latest chapter 96 of the manga, but they couldn’t fuse properly resulting in a comedic moment rather than a badass one.
7) Android 17
Although it was Goku wore down Jiren using Ultra Instinct, it was Android 17 who went on to be the champion of the multiverse. Of course, he wasn’t even close to being the strongest in the universe, he was most definitely among the top 4 Z fighters at that time. He was one of the only fighters to hold his own against Jiren and Toppo numerous times and his support led to Goku and Frieza ultimately getting an upper hand over Jiren. He also provided some excellent support during Z fighters’ battle with Moro and held him off till Vegeta arrived.
6) Good Buu
A part of the most powerful villain in Dragon Ball Z, Good Buu is probably one of the strongest beings in the universe when he is not asleep. During the 3v3 stye battle between universe 7 and 9, Buu made a quick work of his opponent. He even trained hard and slimmed down to his Super Buu look only to go into deep sleep right before the Tournament of Power. Later we saw Buu playing an instrumental role in the Moro arc by literally beating the crap out out of him, when he had access to Grand Supreme Kai’s memories. He was also later honored by Galactic Patrol Headquarters for his assistance in the downfall of Moro. So, he is most definitely one of the strongest Z fighters and if Super Hero arc didn’t come into play, he would have ranked much higher on the list.
5) Piccolo
Piccolo in his current Orange Piccolo form is one of the most powerful characters in Dragon Ball franchise. Creator Toriyama himself stated that he is now as powerful as Goku and Vegeta. While the power scaling is a bit unclear at the moment considering how Goku and Vegeta were absent throughout Super Hero arc, it is safe to say he is definitely among the top 5 Z fighters. Aside from his part time duties as a Z fighter, he is also a full time Dad of Gohan and is responsible for pushing him to the heights he has achieved in the franchise. This loveable Super Namekian is not just a fan favorite but also the creator’s favorite, and that is precisely the reason why Toriyama will always find ways to make him stronger and relevant.
4) Broly
I think it is safe to say that Broly is pretty much a Z fighter now, hence he is on this list. Broly is possibly the most difficult character to rank on any list as his potential is unlimited and unknown. Goku, and Vegeta in their Super Saiyan Blue forms as well as Frieza in his Golden form were unable to beat Broly. It took a Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta to take him down. Even so, we actually got to see the end of the fight as Broly was teleported out of Earth right before Gogeta’s Kamehameha could have hit him. Since then, we have seen even Beerus comment on how he fears Broly may destroy his planet. So, considering his potential, his strength is probably off the charts but from what we have seen so far, this is the minimum rank he deserves.
3) Gohan
The strongest character till Super Buu saga and the heir to the Dragon Ball Franchise, Gohan, decided to become a family man. This resulted in him becoming a weakling until being brought to form by Piccolo and Goku during Tournament of Power. It is often debated that if Gohan never stopped training, he could have been the strongest character in the multiverse. Some even say that it was Gohan who deserved Ultra Instinct more than anyone else, considering how he trained his mind and activated his inner ki with the help of Old Kai. In fact, Mystic Gohan laid the groundwork for the concept of God Ki and Ultra Instinct. Anyways, Gohan was ultimately redeemed in the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero arc by transforming into Gohan Beast and eliminating Cell Max. It is yet to be tested how strong he is compared to Goku and Vegeta but fans firmly believe he is as strong, if not stronger than them. Some believe that everything that has happened so far has laid the groundwork for an ultimate showdown between Black Frieza and Gohan Beast.
2) Vegeta
Anyone who searched for this list, knew that who the top two were going to be and hence, we present Prince Vegeta who’s been cursed to forever stay number 2 in the franchise. No matter what he does, no matter who he beats, he is ultimately outdone by Goku. But Goku is also the reason he has pushed himself beyond limits and thanks to that, he is one of the strongest beings in the multiverse. As usual, his pride and ego generally holds him back from being what Goku is but in his Ultra Ego form he is capable enough to go up against even the Gods of Destruction. In fact, during the Gas arc it was hinted that he may have surpassed Goku but we never got to see who’s stronger as ultimately if was Black Frieza who defeated Gas without a sweat.
1) Goku
We’ve seen Goku grow from a mere child with power level of 4 to the point where he is now going up against Gods, myths, and legends. The kind hearted Saiyan isn’t just one of the most powerful beings in the multiverse, but also a character who inspires loyalty and brings out the best in people. Aside from pushing Vegeta to be the best version of himself, he has also inspired Gohan, Piccolo, Broly and numerous other characters. His selflessness, humility, and purity even made Grand Zeno, the supreme ruler of the multiverse befriend him. So yeah, even though Goku and Vegeta might be evenly matched right now, strength doesn’t just mean physical prowess. What makes Goku stronger than Vegeta is his legion of followers, and the fact that he has tons of people ready to lay down their lives for him, including Vegeta himself. He protects, he inspires, and without him Vegeta would have been happy and proud with his Saiyan Saga power level.
