Netflix’ One Piece Season 2 live-action is in the works. After the success of season one, it was only a matter of time before the second season was greenlit for the anime adaptation. One of the biggest obstacles the One Piece series has to overcome is the ongoing writer’ and actors’ strikes. According to the distributor Tomorrow Studios president Becky Clements, Season 2 could be ready in “somewhere between a year and 18 months” once the ongoing Hollywood strike ends. The team confirmed that the scripts are ready and once the strike ends they are ready to roll.
Cast of Netflix Live-Action One Piece Season 2
We can confidently confirm the return of the following:
- Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D Luffy
- Emily Rudd as Nami
- Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro
- Jacob Romero as Usopp
- Taz Skylar as Sanji
However, who would the King of the Pirates be without a few foes? While they may have defeated their enemies, there’s nothing to say they couldn’t make a comeback in season two with a new revenge plan. We could see the Straw Hats fight against:
- Captain Alvida (played by Ilia Isorelýs Paulino)
- Buggy the Clown (played by Jeff Ward)
- Klahadore/Kuro (played by Alexander Maniatis)
- Arlong (played by McKinley Belcher III)
Possible Story Arcs for Season 2
There are a few key sagas from Eiichiro Oda’s original manga that viewers could see in the new episodes. The first season of the series took on much of the East Blue saga as Monkey D. Luffy assembled his main crew of the Straw Hats before they decided to head to the Grand Line. Considering where the first season concludes, it offers the space for some significant moments to come for this new season.
Loguetown Arc – Loguetown is a significant final step before Luffy and the others make their way into the Grand Line. By the end of the first season, Luffy got his first official bounty poster. It was revealed that following his defeat of Arlong he had the highest amount in the East Blue. This means he’ll come face to face with White Hunter Smoker at the place of Gol D. Roger’s execution as seen in the opening for the series.
Alabasta Arc – Alabasta could serve as the Arlong Park kind of tale to bring season one to an end. This storyline arc is fairly long so it would require crafty scripting to fit it into season 2. The show needs to tackle more stories before implementing the Alabasta arc. It would be a tough balancing act, but could be brilliant if Netflix’s One Piece Season 2 team pulls it off.
Reverse Mountain Arc – This arc could be tackled in one single episode. Luffy and others encounter a giant whale soon after reaching Grand Line, and this is the their first obstacle in their sea adventure. Considering how some of the CG has seemed in Season 1 with the Sea Beat that faced down Shanks in the premiere, this arc could be a game-changer for the upcoming season.
Drum Island Arc – This is a story we’ll see in Netflix’s One Piece Season 2 as Oda himself confirmed that Chopper will be a significant addition to the live-action series. Chopper makes his debut in Drum Island, a land encompassed in snow that’s a markedly different place from anything fans have seen in season one.
Whiskey Peak Arc – This arc is infamous for the way it pits Zoro and Luffy against one another. Upon reaching their first major town, the Straw Hats discover that this stretch of sea will be much different than what they have encountered in East Blue. This wake-up call could lead to some massive events.
