Sex Education Season 4 is finally here. However, sadly, this is the final season of the show. Season 4 has seen a few significant shifts for the Moordale gang. After Moordale closed down, the students headed across to Cavendish College, while Maeve is presently studying abroad in the US. Creator Laurie Nunn explains, “It’s [Cavendish College] very progressive and woke, and it makes the Moordale students feel like they’re little fish in a big pond.” The story deals with side characters, including Adam leaving school to work on a farm, Aimee healing from a sexual assault, and Jean looking after Joy as a single mother.
Before the announcement of Sex Education Season 4 ending, Simone Ashley, Patricia Allison, and Tanya Reynolds confirmed that they wouldn’t be returning to the show. Here’s what we know so far regarding the chances of Sex Education Season 5.
Sex Education Season 5: Will it Happen?
Initially, there was a conjecture of a potential Season 5. However, in a Netflix press release, creator Laurie Nunn confirmed Season 4 is the final season earlier this year. “In my mind, I always felt like I could just write these characters forever and ever.”
“Letting them go has been painful and I think I’m still processing that. But it happened very organically: when we did the writers’ room for season four we didn’t set out for it to be the final series. Something just started to happen through the writing process where I realized that by the time we arrived at that final episode, there weren’t any cliff-hangers and everything had just resolved itself, so I had this feeling that if I left the characters there, I would feel happy for them and hopeful for their future. And that’s how I wanted to leave it and I think it would have felt wrong to keep pushing it forwards when the story had naturally come to an end. I needed to listen to that.”
Now, is there a possibility of potential spin-offs? To which Nunn said, “I’m definitely taking a beak and thinking about other things…but Moordale is a really rich world, and writing about teenagers is always a lot of fun.” Nunn continued, “So, I think that there’s always potential for more to be explored in that world.”
