Dragon Ball Magic Release Date, Episodes, Plot, and More
A few hours ago, in a live stream @Geekdom101 revealed some incredible new information about the future of Dragon Ball anime. Yes, a new web anime is coming and it is called Dragon Ball Magic! Now before you go batshit crazy, this is not a continuation of Dragon Ball Super and isn’t the new name for DBS Season 2. Instead, this is a new original anime based in the same universe we all love so much. Dragon Ball Magic is a new streaming series which will come out directly on Crunchyroll (potentially) and not air on Fuji TV like its predecessors.
As mentioned above it will not interfere with Dragon Ball Super and the DBS manga will continue as usual. The leaker also confirmed that series will be nothing like Super in terms of plot or animation. The series is aimed at a younger audience and hardcore DB fans. The animation is going to be 2D stye as opposed to earlier rumors of 3D and several top animators are working on it to ensure it is the most well-animated DB series ever made. Another great thing is that Akira Toriyama is directly involved in the series and has overseen the production, worked closely with the staff, and has even overseen scripts.
The timeline of the series is set sometime near the end of Dragon Ball Z. As for the plot, the very first arc of Dragon Ball Magic will see Goku and Supreme Kai being turned into kids by a new villain (possibly a demon). They both now have to work together to figure out how to become adult sized again and how to defeat the new villain. Yes, this sounds a lot like Dragon Ball GT but no, it is not a recreation of GT, although it borrows a few plot elements from it. Dragon Ball Magic will have an adventure-feel with a lot of exploration and fight sequences, however, it will probably use more brain than brawns this time. Aside from this, 2-3 new characters will join the team which includes a girl with a sword and a guy with a gun or vice versa.
As for the production, Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru (major animator for DB/Z/GT) is involved, who also designed the Super Saiyan 4 transformation. This has sparked a lot of rumors surrounding SSJ4 in Dragon Ball Magic. According to leaks, the series will feature minimum 15 episodes of 20-45 minutes in length alongside rumors that Aya Komaki has directed the series. The series will see first official announcement and trailer at NYCC 2023 on October 12, 2023. Dragon Ball Magic will debut sometime in 2024, with an expected release slot of first half of 2024.
