Loki is one of the rare shows on TV that has not been postponed to next year due to the strikes. It is also probably the only MCU Disney Plus series which most fans agree being good. Most other MCU shows have struggled to impress fans and critics alike and their past two series namely She-Hulk and Secret Invasion have been outrightly bad. So, a lot rides on Loki Season 2’s success both for Marvel television’s future as well as MCU as a whole. Season 2 of Loki is all set to debut in barely two days from now so, it is only natural that everyone is pumped up for it. If you cannot control your excitement anymore, we have some major potential spoilers for the episode mentioned below. Read on at your own risk.
Loki Season 2 Episode 1 Spoilers and Summary
- Duration – 45 Min
- Directed By – Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead
- Written by – Eric Martin
The end of season 1 was misleading. Loki didn’t arrive at an alternate universe TVA or a TVA that had changed due to the death of HWR as most people theorised. Instead, we learn in Loki Season 2 Episode 1 that due to a glitch in the “time loom”, Loki found himself to the “past” of the TVA. Despite the TVA existing outside of time, the passage of time inside the agency still has a certain linearity, so Loki arrived near the beginning of that linear timeline, shortly after the TVA’s creation.
That’s why there is a He Who Remains statue instead of a Timekeepers statue at the library. At that time, HWR wasn’t hiding himself from his agents. It was only later that he erased his existence from their minds and created the myth of the time keepers. We find that out as Loki glitches forwards and backwards through time visiting various time periods of the TVA. Eventually, Mobius brings Loki to OB (Ke Huy Quan), the creator of the TVA’s technology.
He reveals that Loki is time slipping (moving forwards and backwards in the timeline), which should not be possible at the TVA. Soon, OB realises the glitch derives from the Time Loom, a temporal concept which is connected to the origin of the TVA. OB also shows us how the TVA is able to exist out of time. We learn that TVA uses the energy from the time stream called The Time Loom and the branches from He Who Remains dying in season 1 are overloading the system.
After a few hijinks and exposition about the Time Loom and the nature of the TVA’s existence, OB manages to create a machine to send Loki to the “present” TVA and stabilize him there but the Time Loom is still broken. Loki must now find the present Mobius and tell him what he learned. That is pretty much all we know about Episode 1 in a gist and rest of the details can only be learned after watching the episode on Thursday night. You can check out the full series plot leak here.
