Ridley Scott Napoleon

Ridley Scott’s biopic Napoleon will focus on the pain, carnage, and heartbreak of Napoleon Bonaparte (Joaquin Phoenix). Action epic Napoleon details the checkered rise and fall of the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. Against a fascinating backdrop of large-scale filmmaking orchestrated by Ridley Scott. Scott helms the film from a script that was penned by David Scarpa. Napoleon captures Bonaparte’s grim and persistent journey to power through the prism of his volatile, addictive relationship with Josephine. The film is having a theatrical release later this fall but it seems like Scott has something more in store for fans!

Napoleon: Ridley Scott’s Director’s Cut Is Over 4 Hours Long!

Scott has teased that the initial version of the story spanned more than four hours. Scott teased the shorter theatrical cut of the film will be released. However, we will get to see the director’s cut. Speaking with TotalFilm, Scott confirmed that after the theatrical release, a longer cut of Napoleon will be sent to Apple TV+. Scott explained that a 4 hours and 10 minutes long cut of the film has been made and once the theatrical run is over, this director cut would be made available for streaming.

“I’m working on it. It was four [hours] 10 [minutes] this morning, And so what will happen is, we’ll screen [the theatrical cut] first with Sony, and then it has its run, and then the perfect thing is that [the director’s cut] goes to streaming, and we have four hours 10 minutes.”

As for the cast of the film, Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix plays the titular character while the other cast members of Napoleon include:

  • Paul Rhys (diplomat Talleyrand)
  • John Hollingworth (soldier Marshal Ney)
  • Gavin Spokes (Moulins)
  • Mark Bonnar (Jean-Andoche Junot)
  • Sam Crane (Neoclassical painter Jacques-Louis David)

Ridley Scott is also executive producing Sinking Spring for Apple TV+. He is also directing an episode of the series. Based on Dennis Tafoya’s Dope Thief, the show follows two friends who pose as DEA agents to rob a house. It turns out they robbed a large narcotics operation.
