New York Comic Con’s Empire Stage was filled with Percy Jackson fans. They were present to catch the first glimpse of Disney+’s Percy Jackson And The Olympians series. The new footage was presented by Co-Creator Jon Steinberg, Executive Producer Dan Shotz, Director James Bobin, and other members of the production. Two special guests, the original series writer Rick Riordan and his wife Becky were also present there to thank the crowd for their almost two decades of persistent support. The production took their time to acknowledge Riordan’s contribution, the process of creating Camp Half-Blood, and work experience with the “incredible” cast.
Both James Bobin and Dan Shotz shared that it was not only their kids who were absolute stans of Percy Jackson before they signed up for the show. But, it was also the case with other cast members like Jason Mantzoukas and Lin-Manuel Miranda. “It’s really a family business,” Steinberg shared.

Percy Jackson panel could not stop gushing about their three 12-year-old stars, Walker Scobell, Leah Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri. “We had a commitment from everyone that if it’s right, we’re gonna know it the moment it walks through the door,” Steinberg said. “We got so lucky because we found it three times. [The actors] are all exactly what we hoped they’d be, and they’re also great people, which isn’t always the case.”
“They changed the entire dynamic for the crew and everyone else because they brought this incredible talent to set every day,” Shotz added. “We all miss them a lot.” The team’s earnest care for every little detail was more than obvious in the shared footage. From the intro, minotaur car chase, and Capture The Flag game, every little detail was created with sincerity. Walker Scobell’s Percy is both aloof and lovable as fans would have hoped. The amazing chemistry between the young actors is genuine and evident.
“I knew I had two responsibilities,” Steinberg shared. “I had to try to make sure that if you love these books, you’re going to get what you came for and get to see the things you’ve been spending so much time only imagining come to life.” He continued. “So we had to figure out how to surprise you in a way that feels so organic to the story, it could have been there the whole time.” Steinberg certainly accomplished both of these things and more.
