Stranger Things Season 5 is confirmed to be the last chapter of the Duffer Brother’s epic science fiction saga. The writing team officially revealed “We’re back” online. Now, the concern is the ongoing actors’ strike. Season 5 was meant to begin filming this past summer but nothing went according to plan because of the strikes. Here’s what we know so far regarding Stranger Things Season 5.
Strangers Things Season 5: Plot and Cast
The Duffers revealed in a letter to the fans that they have a strong plan set, “There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes. But first, we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension called the Upside Down. As always, we are gracious for your patience and your support.” Ross Duffer already revealed the plans for a time jump, “I’m sure we will do a time jump. Ideally, we’d have shot [Seasons 4 and 5] back to back, but there was just no feasible way to do that.”
The ending of the two-part Stranger Things Season 4 saw the heroes in a showdown with Vecna while Hawkins was left to face the villain. Season 5 will end Eleven’s struggle against the Vecna and the Upside Down. Since the show’s debut in 2016, Eleven and other heroes have been through incredible struggles, losing friends and family and saving the world on several occasions. With every triumph, the Upside Down gets smarter, throwing out fresh nightmares. Evidently, before Season 5 ends, there will be an epic showdown. Here is the list of actors expected to return for Stranger Things Season 5:
- Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven.
- Finn Wolfhard as Mike.
- Noah Schnapp as Will.
- Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas.
- Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin.
- David Harbour as Jim Hopper.
- Winona Ryder as Joyce.
- Joe Keery as Steve.
- Maya Hawke as Robin.
- Natalia Dyer as Nancy.
- Charlie Heaton as Jonathan.
- Eduardo Franco as Argyle.
- Bret Gelman as Murray.
- Sadie Sink as Max.
When Will It Come Out?
In a conversation with The Wrap, director Shawn Levy confirmed The Duffer Brothers are working hard for Season 5. “Everyone not only needs to get back to work because we have many hundreds of crew members who have not been able to make a living since the strikes began, but we will be shooting very shortly after the actor’s strike ends.” He continued, “I can say that we are hoping to start filming as soon as possible. We really need the actor’s strike resolved first. The Duffers have been hard at work since the writer strike ended. We’re busy on a bunch of fronts because we also have our ‘Stranger Things’ play opening in London imminently. It’s fabulous. It’s f–king awesome… We are raring to go — our cast, our crew.”
Stranger Things Season 5 is not likely to get a release date any time soon from Netflix. If the actor’s strike ends by the end of 2023, then filming can begin in early 2024. If we include 10 months of post-production time, then Season 5 is likely to be released in the fall or winter of 2025.
Stranger Things 1-4 are streaming now on Netflix.
