Doctor Strange III

Doctor Strange first appearance in the MCU came in 2016 in Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange. The titular role was played fantastically by Benedict Cumberbatch. The movie was lauded by critics and fans alike. Since then, Doctor Strange has become a vital character in the MCU and has appeared in many crossover events like Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home. After appearing in multiple such movies, the character finally got his long-awaited sequel titled, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The film was decent at best, leaving fans divisive. The sequel was directed by Sam Raimi and the difference of vision between him and Derrickson was clear. I believe that if Derrickson had returned for the sequel, it would have been a better one.

Regardless, considering the importance of Doctor Strange it it clear that going forward he is one of the pivotal characters of the Multiverse Saga. If that is so, then will the character get another solo outing before he joins the Avengers in upcoming crossover events like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars? If reports are to be believed then yes, he will.

Raimi To Helm Both Doctor Strange 3 and Avengers: Secret Wars?

Sam Raimi is a revered film director in the comic book and horror movie genres, thanks to his work on the Spider-Man trilogy and the Evil Dead franchise. After the mixed reception of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, one wondered whether the filmmaker would return for any future endeavors for Marvel. There is an avid fanbase of Raimi, who want to see more of him. Apparently, he will return to Marvel. According to reliable leakster @DanielRPK, Doctor Strange 3 is officially in the works at Marvel Studios.

The report also mentions that unlike previously assumed, the studio is not considering Scott Derrickson for the threequel, rather they intend to approach Sam Raimi. Not just this, the studio is also seriously considering Raimi to direct their grand multiversal culmination – Avengers: Secret Wars. This decision makes sense as we have been previously informed that the threequel and Avengers: Secret Wars would be connected. Which is why Raimi is in talks to direct the sixth Avengers movie.

Speaking about the plot of Doctor Strange 3, it is believed that Marvel Studios is keen on adapting elements from the Time Runs Out comic event for the threequel. If this were to happen then the film would pick up right where Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness left. Clea has traveled from another dimension to seek out Doctor Strange for his aid in fixing the incursion that he caused. From what we know, Strange has been sought out by a multiversal organization called The Black Priests.

Clea will be a member of this organization. The Black Priests’ headquarters will be in the Nothing Space of Destroyed Universes, which exists within the space of two dead universes caused by an incursion. The film shall reveal that the Multiverse is dying, something that Loki season 2 has already told us. So, this fits right in. The cause of this decay will be a result of the incursions happening all across the Multiverse, the most recent being the one caused by Doctor Strange. The film will also elaborate on a point made in the previous movie regarding Doctor Strange and his threat to the Multiverse.
