Animal Movie 2023 Reviews Roundup - A Mediocre Affair Gets Mixed Reviews

Sandeep Reddy Vanga became one of the most renowned Indian filmmakers after his superhits Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh. Hence, his most recent collaboration with one of Bollywood’s biggest stars Ranbir Kapoor was highly anticipated throughout India. The previews and trailers for the Animal hyped it up to be one of the best films of the year and the film is projected to break numerous records of Hindi cinema. Although, past few Ranbir Kapoor films struggled to impress fans and critics alike, everyone agreed that Ranbir did a great job in them. So, from what people saw in the trailers, Animal looked liked a film which could perfectly utilize his immense potential as an actor. However, it seems like the film has fallen short of its promise.

Animal Movie 2023 Reviews Roundup – Another Overhyped Bad Mass Film?

The moment of truth is here, as the critics verdict of Animal is now out and are quite mixed. While everyone has praised its creative action and score, not everyone is impressed by its story. Many critics have pointed out that the film has actually nothing to say and tries to cover its lack of depth and meaning with loud BGM and bloody action sequences. As expected, the film has been deemed highly misogynistic and features similar themes of toxic masculinity as Kabir Singh. However, one thing is commo among all reviews – the unanimous praise for Ranbir Kapoor. Here, check out for some reviews for yourself.

Taran Adarsh, Bollywood Hungama (4.5/5) – ANIMAL is a powerful film that rests on Ranbir Kapoor’s outstanding performance, clap worthy massy scenes.

Sukanya Verma, Rediff (4/5)The director unleashes his fiercest impulses and care-a-damn attitude to deliver an action-packed exchange of volatile emotions and ruthless violence.

Ganesh Aaglave, Firstpost (3.5/5)Animal is an adrenaline experience which will have polarising views but you can’t deny its entertaining quotient, breathtaking performances and storytelling.

Monika Rawal Kukreja, Hindustan Times – What I truly enjoyed throughout the film was BGM and the songs being played in the background, especially during the action sequences… Animal is an absolute massy, entertaining and extremely violent thriller which doesn’t believe in conforming to the norms.

Renuka Vyavahare, TOI (2.5/5) – Ranbir Kapoor can be Joaquin Phoenix but Animal’s no Joker. This entire film could have just been a conversation between the father and his son.

Anvita Singh, India Today (2/5)– Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Animal’ could have been a great father-son love story. Instead, it is driven by one character’s whims for over three long hours.

Saibal Chatterjee, NDTV (1.5/5) – If there is anything at all that can be deemed to be a takeaway from this off-putting and tiresome film, it is the background music. Music, unfortunately, is the last thing that Animal is likely to leave you with as you troop out of the theatre wondering what all the deadening din was about.

Shubhra Gupta, The Indian Express (1/5) – In the end, there’s nothing to this pointless, vile tale: if I have to, I’d rather watch real animals.

Animal is now playing in theatres near you.
