After this disappointing year, only one thing could make me optimistic again – House of the Dragon Season 2. The second season of the hit HBO series was under discussion for a long time because of all the set leaks that we were getting. After a lot of anticipation, HBO finally gifted us with the first marketing footage of House of the Dragon Season Two and it didn’t disappoint. The Boys Season 4 teaser trailer the same day but HOTD teaser simply ate that one for breakfast. This is perhaps the second best trailer I’ve seen all year after Dune: Part Two. The trailer successfully teases of all the terrible and exciting things about to take place in Westeros along with hinting at all the beasts that will appear in the sequel season. So, here is a list of all the dragons featuring in House of the Dragon Season 2 trailer.
House of the Dragon Season Two: New Season, New Dragons!
The teaser trailer for House of the Dragon Season Two was therapeutic. I haven’t been this happy in many days. Funny how good content can make you smile. The trailer had a lot to offer and needless to say the scope and scale of second season is much bigger than the debut. The teaser warns us that the Dance of Dragons is about to begin. Here are all the dragons which the trailer introduces us to. Starting off with the first dragon to appear in the list is Seasmoke.
If that name sounds familiar then it is because Rhaenyra Targaryen’s previous husband Laenor Velaryon used to ride him. Seasmoke is supposed to be ridden by Adam of Hull, who also features in the trailer. The dragon was riderless for six years before Adam chose him. Adam is supposed to be of Velaryon seed, a bastard child of the Sea Snake himself, Corlys Velaryon. In the trailer, it appears as if Rhaenyra with Syrax and Adam with Seasmoke will face each other. That means Syrax is our second dragon.
Then we get a brief shot of Baela Targaryen (daughter of Daemon Targaryen and Laena Velaryon) riding the beast called Moondancer, who will be a new addition to the HBO series. No footage of the dragon is seen yet but I’m sure he is beautiful. Following this, we get a glimpse of Daemon Targaryen’s dragon – Caraxes who looks as fearless and battle ready as his rider. It is not long before we finally get a glimpse of the biggest beast from the show Aemond Targaryen’s Vhagar. She looks as magnificent as ever.
These were all the dragons spotted in the trailer. Now, I’m going to tell you about the dragons I think that will feature in Season Two but weren’t in the teaser trailer. Princess Rhaenys’ Meleys who absolutely stole the show in season 1, episode 9. It is also believed that if the show follows Martin’s Fire & Blood closely, Rhaenys and Meleys will both meet their end sometime in this season. Haelaena Targaryen is a character that has been in the show from season 1, however, not a lot has been covered about her, including her dragon – Dreamfyre.
Second season could be a good time to show the beast in its full glory. As for Aegon Targaryen II, he will be a prominent character of season 2, it is only logical to introduce his dragon Sunfyre who is supposed to be spectacular and fierce now. Prince Jacaerys Velaryon (Rhaenrya’s first son), will also play a pivotal role in season two along with his dragon Vermax. We got to see a glimpse of the dragon in season 1, episode 10. Lady Rhaena (older daughter of Daemon Targaryen and Laena Velayron), will also be part of season two and she’ll ride a dragon called Morning.
Now, the only beast left from the lot is the second biggest dragon alive as of now in Westeros – Vermithor aka the bronze fury. The dragon was teased to us at the end of season 1. After the terrible events of season 1’s finale, it only seems logical that Daemon would release the beast who has found home at Dragonstone into battle against the Greens. The dragon first belonged to Jaehaerys I (king before King Viserys) According to Martin’s books, Vermithor will be claimed by Hugh, a bastard and blacksmith local to Dragonstone, who later turns against Rhaenyra.
At the time of House of the Dragon’s debut, it was revealed that the show will have a total collection of seventeen dragons throughout its run. Adding all the above dragons, the tally now comes to eleven dragons which means that there are still six unknown dragons that will either appear in the second season of the show or in the later seasons.
