Alexander Payne is back with a new movie after six years. If you don’t him then he has helmed films like Downsizing, The Descendants, Nebraska, About Schmidt and Sideways. Payne is a master when it comes to finding comedy in tragedy. All his films follow this trope and follow it well. From what I understand, Payne was always a niche director but with The Holdovers I think he has cracked into some mainstream recognition, especially if the film performs well at the Golden Globes and Academy Awards. The film had a quiet theatrical release earlier this year, so, don’t blame yourself if you missed it in cinemas. However, if you’re in the mood to witness the best film of the year, then you will be able stream it during the holiday season. Find out when.
The Holdovers Will Be Available To Stream During The Holidays!
According to a new update, you can now stream The Holdovers on Peacock starting this Friday, December 29th, 2023. This is quite a surprise considering the lack of a major studio backing the film. I know it is a Miramax presentation, but the studio is not the same as what it was back in the 90s. The Holdovers is arguably the best movie to watch in this holiday season. The film has been available for purchase ($29.99) and rent ($19.99) on digital and VOD platforms like Apple TV+, Vudu, YouTube and Amazon Prime Video since November 28th, 2023.
However, the Alexander Payne directorial will greatly benefit from this streaming option, since families will be looking to binge content together this time of the year. Peacock isn’t currently offering a free trial, but plans start at $5.99/month for Peacock Premium or $11.99/month for mostly ad-free Peacock Premium Plus. Also, if you’re interested to buy the physical copy of this film then The Holdovers will be available for purchase on physical media formats like DVD and Blu-ray from January 2nd, 2024.
The Holdovers stars Paul Giamatti, Dominic Sessa, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Brady Hepner, Carrie Preston and Gillian Vigman. As mentioned, the film is currently available for purchase on digital and VOD platforms.
