The Star Wars films are one of the main reasons that most of your favorite filmmakers are working in this industry. The influence of the George Lucas franchise on the lives of on an entire generation is immeasurable. However, people like me who are born in early 2000s don’t share the same love for the franchise as recently, the Star Wars films have largely missed their mark. The Prequel trilogy is unbearable, the Sequel trilogy started with promise but crash landed all the same. Although, the Disney franchise has shifted their focus from movies and invested in TV shows. This move from Lucasfilm seems to be in the right direction as the Star Wars TV shows until now have mostly done well. If you’re wondering what’s next for the franchise in 2024, then keep reading below:
Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew
Skeleton Crew is a Star Wars show that we’ve been hearing for a long time since 2022. The show began filming in the summer of 2022 and ever since then it has been a waiting game. However, Disney has now confirmed that out of the 4 Star Wars shows coming in 2024, Skeleton Crew will be one of them to debut. The delay in release is likely due to the actors’ and writers’ strikes. The show will have eight episodes and is led by cast members like Jude Law, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Robert Timothy Smith, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, and Kyriana Kratter. We don’t have a release date at the time of writing.
Star Wars: The Acolyte
Another Star Wars show that has been in the making for a long time is The Acolyte. Set in the High Republic era, The Acolyte is the franchise’s first live-action project set in this era. The show will be “a Sith-led story,” making it a unique entry in the franchise. The Acolyte’s cast includes names such as Dafne Keen, Amandla Stenberg, Jodie Turner-Smith, Carrie-Anne Moss, Lee Jung-jae, and more. We don’t have any plot details at the moment but, the involvement of a Wookie Jedi was mentioned and a Padawan reuniting with his Jedi Master for solving a series of crimes was presented as the basic premise.
The Bad Batch Season 3
The hit Star Wars show will come to an end this year with its third and final season. Recently, producer Jennifer Corbett mentioned that the final mix session of Bad Batch Season 3 was done, indicating that the show might release in mid 2024. Season two left fans with a quite a cliffhanger, with Clone Force 99 losing Tech, Omega getting kidnapped, and the reveal of another important clone. This being the last season, expectations are set high to end Bad Batch Season 3 on the best note. The entire cast is expected to return, including Dee Bradley Baker and Michelle Ang.
Tales of the Jedi Season 2
We all knew that Tales of the Jedi season two was always dropping. It followed Ahsoka and Count Dooku, capturing them in multiple adventures of their lives in different eras. Currently, there’s no information on who these new episodes will follow. We can expect the show to drop some unique Star Wars episodes that might also feature stories from High Republican era.
Other then these, The Mandalorian Season 4, Andor Season 2 and Ahsoka Season 2 are not coming in 2024 but we can expect these shows to drop in 2025 or later.
