Suzume is the blockbuster Japanese anime movie that released last year and garnered critical acclaim worldwide. The film grossed $323 million in theatres worldwide that it made it one of the highest grossing anime films ever. The Makoto Shinkai directorial first premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 2023. Suzume earned director Makoto Shinkai nominations at the Japanese Academy Awards, Annie Awards, and Asia Pacific Screen Awards. Suzume Has Been Released On Digital Platforms!
Suzume has finally been released in the US on digital and VOD platforms like Vudu, Apple iTunes and Amazon Prime Video for rent on purchase on January 30th, 2024. The film was released on online platforms in Japan on September 20th, 2023, including English and Chinese-language subtitles. After a long wait, the US audiences will finally debut on their digital platforms.
It is set to be followed by a Blu-ray and DVD release in North America on March 12th, 2024, and in the United Kingdom on April 1st. The physical media copies with also come with some special goodies. The collector’s edition of Suzume features a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and bonus content such as audio commentary, a making-of documentary, animatics of the film, and interviews with cast and staff members.
Suzume was written and directed by Makoto Shinkai, produced by CoMix Wave Films, and distributed by Toho. The film follows 17-year-old high school girl Suzume Iwato and young stranger Souta Munakata, who team ups to prevent a series of disasters across Japan by sealing doors from the colossal, supernatural worm that causes earthquakes after being released.
