Right from the opening, The Boys Season 3 succeeded in being crazy, weird, and highly captivating. When last month Eric Kripke called season 3 opening the craziest thing any studio has ever done, he wasn’t lying. Aside from being crazy, it was one of the most profane and graphic sequence on The Boys yet. And season 3 keeps on getting more gory and disturbing as it progresses. But that is something we expected from this series, although we didn’t expect it to be as crazy as it is. You can check out our detailed review here. There’s one particular scene in episode 3, which is making viewers go bonkers and that scene has just received quite an honor.
The Boys Gets Honored for Timothy the Octopus Scene
In last season we saw a very weird sequence of Deep talking to his gills and a girl trying to finger them. Well that is nothing compared to this season, as here we see Deep sexualizing an octopus (Timothy), and later on eating it alive on the orders of Homelander. So, we can call Deep the weird symbol of the show as most of the scenes involving him are really cringey and hard to watch with a straight face.
From getting his whales and dolphins killed, to being part of disgusting sex scenes, the Deep has been intolerable since season 1. But eating his friend Timothy was by far the most disturbing and uncomfortable scene we’ve experienced in the series. Fans started demanding Justice for Timothy on social media and the scene instantly became the focus of discussion. Although, Deep’s character is highly involved in such scenes, he generally tries to do the right thing. He cares a lot for aquatic animals and tries to save them, however, we always ends up failing spectacularly and getting them killed.
Well, it seems like this scene was admired by PETA so much that it decided to honor Crawford, Kripke, and The Boys special effects team with its Tech, Not Terror Awar. They appreciated the scene for being cruelty-free because of the use of CGI. That aside, they also pointed out that the scene was indirectly making people care for animals and see them as an entity whose lives matter. PETA’s Senior Vice President Lisa Lange said, “The Boys’ real heroes are working behind the scenes, creating a realistic CGI octopus so that animals can live in peace. PETA is celebrating this series for helping viewers see every octopus as an individual like Timothy, not as an entrée or as entertainment.”
PETA or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is an American animal rights nonprofit organization based in Norfolk, Virginia. It is led by Ingrid Newkirk and has more than 9 million active members globally. Though PETA has been subject to many controversies in the recent era, it is basically trying to help the world in the way it thinks is right. Well, in reality, that is all any of us can actually do. Moral of the story is that even with 1/3rd of its new season, The Boys Season 3 ahs succeeded in turning eyeballs and leaving an impact.
The Boys Season 3 Episode 4 releases on Amazon PrimeVideo on 10th June sharp at 3 a.m. ET.
