I think we’re all aware of the recent happenings in the life of Johnny Depp, if not let me refresh your memory. Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard were in a legal battle with each other as the latter had made allegations on the former for domestic abuse in 2018, a year after their divorce. Johnny Depp’s reputation was limited to being a wife beater and drug addict. The actor filed a defamation lawsuit on his ex-wife of $50 million. While many experts in the field of law predicted the lawsuit will backfire on him, the jury verdict said otherwise. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor won the trail and was rewarded with $15 million of damages.
While the actor’s reputation is clear now, it hit quite a hit after Heard’s allegations. Disney was quick to distance itself from the actor by dropping him from the hugely successful franchise, The Pirates if the Caribbean. Depp played Captain Jack Sparrow and his portrayal of the character is believed to be the reason behind the success of the franchise. However now that the coast is clear it seems like Johnny has made his comeback.

During the trail, the actor made it quite clear that he would no longer be returning to Pirates of the Caribbean franchise as Disney didn’t stand with him when he needed, although, he said that he understood Disney’s decision. The actor said, “Two years had gone by of constant worldwide talk about me being this wife beater. So I’m sure that Disney was trying to cut ties to be safe. The #MeToo movement was in full swing at that point.”
However, a former Disney executive believes his return is inevitable as the partnership is too much of value to go in vain. “I absolutely believe post-verdict that Pirates is primed for rebooting with Johnny as Capt. Jack back on board,” the anonymous source told People. “There is just too much potential box-office treasure for a beloved character deeply embedded in the Disney culture. With [producer] Jerry Bruckheimer riding high on the massive success of Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, there is huge appetite for bringing back bankable Hollywood stars in massively popular franchises.”
If not on the big screen but still Johnny Depp returned as Jack Sparrow on the Disney Land Castle in Paris. The projection of Jack Sparrow was projected onto the Magic Kingdom castle during a Pirates of the Caribbean fireworks display. The fans rejoiced this moment as this was the first time since the allegations that the projection resurfaced. Of course, there was some backlash by the ones who believe the actor is guilty but overall, the response was overwhelming. A Twitter user shared the video and it had reactions.

According to reports, Disney is planning a reboot of the franchise with Margot Robbie in the lead. This is a golden opportunity for Disney to get Depp and Robbie together on the screen as that might result in a box office juggernaut. Robbie would be the lead and Depp could take the supporting role. This maybe the perfect way to let Robbie take on the reigns.
