Knives Out 2 World Premiere Will Take Place At TIFF in September

The Toronto International Film Festival will host the world premiere of Rian Johnson’s follow-up to the 2019 hit “Knives Out”. Extraordinary Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) makes a comeback in Knives Out 2 titled “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” bringing his Southern drawl to Greece to solve a mystery involving an entirely new cast of fascinating suspects.

These suspects include characters portrayed by Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, and Madelyn Cline, joined by Kate Hudson and Dave Bautista as special appearances. The first round of set pictures also teased roles played by Ethan Hawke and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Knives Out 2: Blanc Takes His Talents To Greece This Time

The 47th annual Toronto International Film Festival, which runs from September 8 to September 18, will have the world debut of “Glass Onion.” the film’s scheduled performance date, as well as its placement as the festival’s Opening, Closing, or Centrepiece showcase, are yet to be made public.

2019 saw the global debut of “Knives Out” at TIFF. The Agatha Christie-inspired murder mystery broke box office records, earning $311 million worldwide against a $40 million budget, thanks to critical acclaim and the audience’s affection. Johnson received an Oscar nomination for the original screenplay he created in addition to directing.

Daniel Craig’s scene-stealing performance as Benoit Blanc, a detective tasked with piecing together the facts of the mysterious death of renowned author Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) on his 85th birthday, led to the production spinoff cinematic universe where the character looks into new cases.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery Coming To Netflix Soon

Though Lionsgate released the first film in theatres, Netflix revealed in March 2021 that it had acquired the rights to the “Knives Out” franchise and confirmed two sequels in a contract estimated to be worth $450 million, making it the biggest movie purchase in Netflix history.

Johnson, who once again wrote and directed the film, has also produced it along with Ram Bergman through their company T-Street. The international release of “Glass Onion” on Netflix will take place around the holidays in 2022.

TIFF 2022 will resume in-person screenings and events after a scaled-back event last year. Other movies scheduled to be screened during the annual gathering will likely be announced by festival organizers very soon.
